Just got done watching True Grit! Thought it was good, Jeff Bridges is awesome. Didn't have to dig through many posts to get caught up so I knew it wasn't good. Holding a smidge of hope that the NAM wins out on the deformation band or ULL or whatever the mess is behind the original storm. Guess it all depends on the track of the Low...think it's pretty hard to forecast where that band sets up and crosses. Hope whoever gets it takes some video...nothing better than an intense heavy wet snow falling IMO

Yeah, I agree. Great movie. I thought the very end was a little weird. It might have been the same as the original, but I never saw it, so I don't know.

A good (sort of ) weather-related movie I watched recently is "Frozen". Its about a group of 3 skiers who get stranded on the ski slope, then it gets cold and they're just left hanging there. I actually watched it at the same time doing some computer stuff on the last Winter storm, so I don't remember a whole lot of the details but I think it was pretty good.

I will check that one out...maybe tomorrow while it's raining!

32° here now, went under the forecast low of 33° but i'm sure it'll be toast in the morn.:maprain:

Toast? You mean like this:

Roger: How about we tell some ghost stories.

Kel: Oh! I got one! When the bread came out of the toaster, no one knew what to put on it. Margarine, cinnamon, sugar? I suggested butter. Crumbs were everywhere!

Kenan: Man, he said ghost stories, not toast stories!

Kel: Oh. I don't know any of those.

So, ya think he (or she) is dwelling among us at NC State (and in my department)? thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Superjames and Jon,

I'm inferring that you guys are going through the met program at State. Is Drs. Watson, Koch, or Rijordon still over there? Dr. Watson was my advisor when I went I was over there. I imagine that they're not. I graduated in 97.

Well here goes the NAM, expect the trend north to start and join the rest of the non-believers...just asking for the deform band to see some snow at the end..not too much to ask, right?

LOL

So you're wanting to see a blob of 1" + qpf in 6 hours pegged over western SC Wednesday night? I'm shocked! Who knows the models may end up further south, stranger things have happened.

'True Grit' SPOILER ALERT****

In the original, the last scene is with John Wayne and the girl visiting her deceased father's grave, which is rather different than the sadder ending of the new movie. Also, the original starts with the girl's father still alive and we get to see more background about him and his killer. John Wayne's character was much more of a central figure in the original than he is in Jeff Bridge's version. The girl in the new movie is much snarkier and sassier than her predecessor.

Frozen was a shockingly good movie, an effective, tight psychological thriller. However, I think they went overboard with the ravenous monster wolves.

thanks for spoiling it. Be sure to tell them how the girl falls asleep with her hands on the metal hand rest and she pulls her finger tips off the next morning. And when she and the remaining guy goes down the mountain to get help she discovers his disemboweled body.

which makes me wonder why didnt they pull their jackets over their heads and faces and pull in their arms and snuggle to conserve body heat? i know, i know, it makes for an awkward movie if the cast is shrouded underneath their coats.

I see no possible way AVL can get to Winter Storm Warming criteria. I think at best AVL will get a Winter Storm Advisory.....Reasoning is how the deformation band will be eaten up by the windward side of the Appalachians of NC.

:(

Actually the mtns probably won't even get touched by that Def. band esp near AVL , unless the models are way wrong . The SREF has it well north of them when its cold enough to snow, but its not really the mtns. hurting the band, its just where that band sets up in relation to the 5H feature.

I can't believe how many people are still following this one east of the Mountains/Foothills in NC when it is essentially DOA.

I agree in most part. There are people in the mountains and to the west that have a vested interest. Also we (central NC) may get some freezing rain/drizzle tomorrow night; nothing big but is an interest. I do wish there would be more discussions on the February potentials (maybe a new topic).
