I despise clear-air mode. It's so freaking annoying that we are still in clear-air mode, despite the fact that it should have been switched to precip mode at least an hour ago. I really don't get it at all.

Clear air mode is probably what's taking the snow so long to get here ;) It wants to make sure we dont miss its appearance in between those long 10 min intervals ;)

wow people just a few miles south and east of phil reporting plain rain

I made a few posts earlier this afternoon about the sneaky warm layer being advertised by the further north and west models..and how people south of PHL and along the shore should be alert for this. Given the precip intensity and shield further west on radar this is not surprising.

Been snowing moderately for about a half hour now; have close to 1/2" on the ground and it looks like the really juicy stuff is on my doorstep, per the radar. Looks awesome outside - need to go for a quick walk. 31F and 100% humidity.

Jay - congrats - being there for my son's birth ranks up there in my top few experiences ever. How about Crystal for a girl and Dendrite for a boy...

It might be a case of people just north and west of the mix line getting in on some of the best rates

Snowing lightly here in Brooklyn everything is covered, only thing is it's kinda warm out there 34? Central park is 6-7 miles north of me and at 28. Either my sensor is off or it's just the southeast east wind killing us down here on the south shore.

The wind is NNE at JFK and temp has dropped to 32.

A function of the spiking warm nose in association with the developing low. That's exactly why we had ZERO room for error with this low, and had it come in more amplified than this we would mostly be rain as well. Very close call as is.

Very wet, plastering snow coming down outside here. Very X-mas 2002 like. Just about all surfaces whitened, but hopefully we start cooling down soon so we start getting in on some of the higher ratio drier snow.

It seems like this has been said before this season-- but this has been a great winter, not only are we tracking a snowstorm on our door step, we have another threat to look forward to next week! Nothing like experiencing anticipation and satisfaction at the same time :)

I hope we get the same kind of luck next week, but regardless, looks like we're going to get plastered tonight. :gun_bandana:

Yes...all of the dynamics and features as well as the coastal low and precipitation seem to be on the western envelope of the tracks from earlier yesterday. I think the city and west is fine..but LI could have issues as well as the NJ coast.
