I have to say this, regardless of what may happen from now through March, this has been one of the most memorable stretches of winter weather at least for my location and several areas in this thread as well. It's really just been awesome tracking these storms through the first half of winter with you guys...the overnight crew has been especially awesome. Tonight, we get a chance to continue that...with the ultimate prize falling from the sky for a few hours. So consider this my personal thanks to everybody for making this so fun this winter. I'm sure it helps that we keep getting storm after storm...but you get the point. You guys rule

And a thanks to you. I've learned more this winter after 12 am than I ever have Lol.

John, THIS post describes what a great character and a weather hobbyist you truly are. And a professional meteorologist in the making as you graduate from Kean, you will be one hell of a synotpic-planetary forecaster in the next few years.

Keep it up. :pepsi:

had a taste, albeit small of the waa snow here, radar returns were pathetic yet the ratios were excellent, dusting out of nothing, you boys down in jerz look to be in a perfect spot over the next 6 hrs to really cash in on the dendrites.

Enjoy

we somehow quietly picked up nearly a half inch from that, but the real deal will be coming in soon...

It's definitely worth it John and thanks again for your dedication and your commitment to knowledge. You're going to make an exceptional forecaster and meteorologist one day pretty soon and your work ethic will make it possible for you. Good work, man, and may there be many 12/26/10 blizzards in your future! :snowman:

haha. Love the animations. really is like watching a movie for us weather fanatics. Except a movie that no one's ever seen before :P

Temp down to 28 for what it's worth here in East Setauket.

Love the returns to our south. Only downside is how dang fast this thing is going to move. Still confident with 3-6", but let's see what this one does!!

ahh boom boom.... something is happening off DEL whistle.gifpopcorn.gif

No doubt about it! staying up for the Euro and occasionally the EC ensembles has done wonders for my meteorological IQ. Many thanks to John, Tom, BI, Alex ,and many others that have made this excrutiatingly tiring process worthwhile. The late night stuff has truly been priceless.

Thanks for all your tireless efforts, John. The last year and a half-- from the Yanks WS in 2009, through the 2009-10 winter, the 2010 summer and now this winter have been the greatest year and a half I can ever remember having.

Love the night crew - you guys are awesome - hopefully the kids are tucked in and don't have PDA's under the covers. Been out all night (RU hoops game - nice win - and eating/drinking/poker with friends till a few minutes ago) - don't have time to read through everything. Is everything on track still for a general 3-5" for most of NJ (except the coast), especially from 195 northward? NWS hadn't changed anything, but I know we're a bit late on the start. Thanks...

Earlier today I asked if the higher than expected totals in the midwest were due in part to the gulf moisture feed that was showing up. With the better than expected radar returns is it due to that or is it more the way the pressure is falling and more lift being generated?

I haven't been following the radars all day but the current US radar looks somewhat impressive for a forecasted 3-5" snowstorm here. There is a squall line in Florida and the explosion of bands near Baltimore are associated with the low developing off the Delaware coast. Most of what we get is from the developing storm off the coast and it's generated precip.. the precip that fell out west was from the primary wave giving way to the new low... seems like a typical hand off miller B.

You guys all rock...to all the responses, Ive enjoyed every minute of it with all of you guys. Regarding the efforts...I wish I could say it was effort. Truth is it's just what I enjoy to do.

There are four things in life that I thoroughly enjoy more than anything. Girls, baseball, a cold beer, and watching a snowy coastal low develop off the New Jersey coast.

Wishing you all feet and feet of snow.

Any folks with weather stations in the NYC metro...obs would be appreciated.

Specifically RH and temperature in addition to current conditions. I'm (attempting) to do some experimental work vis a vis RH% and temperature vs. virga returns.
