nw baltimore wx
yeah i think a lot of people like it for short periods mostly in hopes they get a day off or something but other than that it's kind of useless. im not a snowcover guy myself.. more in to the before and during. For most guys, cuddle time is only done because you know you're going to want the before and during part again.

Bob Chill
The track of the 500h vort to our north actually favors a low tracking somewhere near dc. My temperature is already 42 degrees and i'm sure there are plenty of other temps already in the mid to upper 30s and the cold air does get hear until the front comes thru at the end of the storm. Nah, no reason to worry.....the low will manufacture its own cold air. Took that right from page #121 of the weenie handbook. 39 on the car thermo driving to work had me thinking the same thing. Odd of getting below 32 before the snow starts is pretty slim. .15 aint going to accumulate much but looking out the window will look nice while it's falling. That's actually why I moved to the Mid Atlantic from CNY. A storm or two a year with pretty white stuff is nice. 150 inches every winter and digging your car out every morning before going to work - not so much. I wasn't really thinking about humidity though....

A stark difference to here, especially this year. I'll take 1/10th of the CNY annual.

Organizing Low
Every single time I have been to Boston on business during the winter months, folks have complained to me about the snow and wished they lived further south. We are definitely in a minority and I think the minority shrinks further as you go north. From here to NYC is probably the sweet-spot in terms of getting enough snow to whet your appetite for more but not become a bore. Further north, you get bored by it, further south you don't have much hope. strongly strongly agree with this post. violently agree. would rather be in florida, trumps all. Further north, you get bored by it, further south you don't have much hope. I think it mostly goes back to people wanting what they can't have. They have it, don't want it. We don't have it, we want it. We are mostly a bunch of control freaks on this board, I suspect. That's the really frustrating part of it for us. We want something that we have absolutely no control over. The weather models this year have constantly "allowed us to have what we want" if only in fantasy and then they yank it away. We feel helpless, hapless, and stupid. That's where the frustration comes from. We'd do good to listen the Cheryl Crow. If you don't have what you want, want what you've got. I wasn't really thinking about humidity though.... I agree. I lived for 10 years at Deep Creek Lake in Garrett County, MD and while I enjoyed the frequent and "assured" snowfalls, it does really get old by around Feb 1. So, now I live only 2 hours ways, but in a different world, climate-wise. I still have a place at the lake, which I enjoy many weekends (I will be up there later tomorrow) and that feds my hunger for snow but allows me to get back to the milder climate of central Maryland. jonjon
I don't get sick of the snow, even though we get a lot, but I have to admit that by April I'm ready for some warm up and yard care (I'm a lawn guy), but even then, when I see a threat for snow in April, I'm all over it hoping it will happen (I know it will go away quickly at that point, anyway). I love the lack of heat in the summer. And by October I'm back in the mood for more snow!

I wasn't really thinking about humidity though.... If I was in CNY, you would never ever need to worry about digging your car out of that precious snow. I'd do it every morning free of charge with a smile. It would be a high privilege. The only thing you might mind may be the tremendously tall snowbanks............ WxUSAF
ugh http://www.nco.ncep....sw_ref_027l.gif Where are they relative to averages this year? I use the 2008 numbers as a rough guide (not sure if 30-yr or all time): http://lwf.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/online/ccd/snowfall.html ...it's what I could find quickly one day when I was searching. WxUSAF
So basically Boston is at their seasonal normal already... 42.3 vs 42.2 normal for the season. With another 8-12" on the way, they'll go much above normal on the season in the next 48 hours with a solid 2 months to go in the snow season. Hartford's in a similar spot with 49" for a normal season.

WxUSAF
Right on time...the LWX experimental snow total graphic is dropping totals. <1" for DC. 1.5" for Baltimore. Since the initial graphic always seems to be 3-10 times more snow than what actually fell, if they had this thing last year it would have been serious PORN Now it is just another kick in the balls..
