free_man
Weenie suicide on the 00z GFS? Lakes cutter then a suppressed storm. Ouch. At least Kevin gets his cold departures... that's all that matters!! Lots of cutting going on this December....
nzucker
Ensembles are still the same as 18z...I guess when we are sitting around waiting for something to happen, we keep looking at these OP runs beyond D6 out of boredom. The NAO block just looked a lot more east-based on the 0z and didn't allow the 50/50 low to get into a confluent position. Obviously doesn't matter too much at this point since the models are struggling with a complex blocking pattern. 0z GFS also wants to bomb that low over the Pac NW more and create a -PNA/+EPO set-up that is much more dominant than in previous runs. We'll see what Euro has but not that important this far out.

weatherwiz
As long as we get like 8-10 SWFE of at least 4-6'' here than it will be a decent winter here.
nzucker
Hey I'll take that over 35F and rain. I will take 6" of snow any day SWFE are rough down here though we can cash in when there's an arctic airmass around...my parents had 5" in Dobbs Ferry on 1/28/09 when Middlebury got 13". free_man
And this is with a favorable pattern Anyone else excited for January and February? ouch. In the back of my mind I've had thoughts of an '89-like winter since August. We are due after all (I know weenies love that one); the last failure was 06-07 of course, now four years ago. Unlikely, but you never know.
CT Rain
Hey I'll take that over 35F and rain. Good point! Kevin will be dumbfounded quite a bit this winter after forecasting 12"+ with a 700mb low between ALB and SYR

As long as we have an active pattern though something like '89 shouldn't happen, no? Didn't that winter just feature an awfully boring pattern? At least this pattern looks rather active. weathafella
06-07 was NOT a failure. It was. In fact if it weren't for the mid March 8 inches, that year would have been Boston's futility record.

weatherwiz
Yeah that year fooking sucked, lol. That was the worst winter since 2001-2002. I never, ever want to go through something like that again. Plus what made it worse was I missed the Valentine's Day storm by just a week...LSC got crushed. My best fun that winter was the December 1st, 2006 severe wx event, although it impacted PA/NY more than it did SNE.

ORH_wxman
Didn't you get a lot in V-Day and St Patty's? V-day was okay...got 8".....St. Patty's day was good with 13"....but that winter still sucked. It broke the record for the least snowfall through January 31st on record here (5.0"). Despite a decent 2nd half, it wasn't nearly to make up for the horrific start.

ORH_wxman
Looks like the 00z Euro starts off the interior as sleet and maybe a period of ZR for the N ORH hills/Mondanocks. Looks like the secondary sfc low tracks over SE MA or CC.

free_man
06-07 was NOT a failure. Winter was a failure x10 for SNE. Heading into spring and spring itself was fairly snowy for the interior, which was a saving grace. However, the winter was over. I believe the best storm was that April nor'easter, which was mostly rain. LOL
