B-Rent
luckily, it looks like it passed here. you always got to worry about these late night/very early morning possible tors near population centers, even though they're often weak when associated with lines like this. i doubt many in this area would have thought that severe weather was a possibility tonight. i know no one here would have woken up for it had i not happened to be still getting ready for bed. i think a weather radio may be a good christmas gift. Truth. That said the larger than normal polygons make more sense. Although, I don't know that IND does "small polygons".

B-Rent
BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED TORNADO WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE INDIANAPOLIS IN 610 AM EST THU NOV 25 2010 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN INDIANAPOLIS HAS ISSUED A * TORNADO WARNING FOR... janetjanet998
they took away the slight risk BROAD CYCLONIC FLOW REMAINS OVER MUCH OF THE UNITED STATES TODAY...WITH A STRONG SOUTHWESTERLY MID/UPPER LEVEL JET EXTENDING FROM NM/TX INTO THE GREAT LAKES REGION. THE PRIMARY SURFACE COLD FRONT NOW EXTENDS FROM NORTH TX INTO AR/MO/IL AND WILL CONTINUE TO SURGE SOUTHEASTWARD THROUGH THE FORECAST PERIOD. THE FRONT WILL PROVIDE THE MAIN FOCUS FOR SCATTERED SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY TODAY...SOME OF WHICH COULD BE LOCALLY STRONG. ..TX/LA/AR/MS AMPLE LOW LEVEL MOISTURE IS CURRENTLY IN PLACE OVER PORTIONS OF EAST TX/LA/AR/MS WITH DEWPOINTS IN THE MID 60S AS FAR NORTH AS LIT. BREAK IN THE CLOUDS THIS AFTERNOON WILL HELP TO DESTABILIZE THE AIR MASS AND YIELD MLCAPE VALUES 500-750 J/KG. ANA-FRONTAL CHARACTERISTICS OF LOW LEVEL ENVIRONMENT LATER TODAY SUGGEST THAT BULK OF STORMS WILL BE BEHIND THE FRONT AND PRIMARILY ELEVATED. HOWEVER...IF SUFFICIENT HEATING CAN OCCUR...A FEW STORMS COULD FORM AHEAD OF THE FRONT. THESE STORMS WOULD POSE A RISK OF LOCALLY DAMAGING WIND GUSTS OR PERHAPS SOME HAIL. CONFIDENCE IS NOT PARTICULARLY HIGH THAT AREAL COVERAGE OF THESE STORMS WILL WARRANT A SLIGHT RISK...SO HAVE THEREFORE MAINTAINED ONLY LOW SEVERE PROBS. ..OH VALLEY THE SURFACE COLD FRONT WILL ALSO PUSH EASTWARD ACROSS THE OH VALLEY TODAY BENEATH VERY STRONG MID/UPPER LEVEL WINDS. THE 06Z NAM SOLUTIONS SUGGESTS THE LOW LEVEL JET WILL STRENGTHEN TO OVER 70 KNOTS THIS EVENING ACROSS PARTS OF KY/OH/WV AHEAD OF THE FRONT. IF THIS SOLUTION IS CORRECT...ENHANCED FORCING AND AMBIENT WINDS WOULD INCREASE THE POTENTIAL FOR A LINE OF FAST-MOVING SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. CAPE VALUES WILL BE BARELY SUFFICIENT TO SUPPORT LIGHTNING. HOWEVER...LOCALLY DAMAGING WINDS CANNOT BE RULED OUT.
KokomoWX
Truth. That said the larger than normal polygons make more sense. Although, I don't know that IND does "small polygons". There is NWS training somewhere online talking about the use of polygons and appropriate use. They show a bad example of a polygon (too large) and it was from IND. janetjanet998
MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 2081 NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK 0944 AM CST THU NOV 25 2010 AREAS AFFECTED...ERN AR...WRN TN...NWRN MS CONCERNING...OUTLOOK UPGRADE VALID 251544Z - 251645Z WE ARE PLANNING TO REINTRODUCE THE SLIGHT RISK WITH THE 1630Z UPDATE FOR A THREAT OF ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND AND ISOLATED TORNADOES. THIS MORNING A COLD FRONT EXTENDS FROM ERN IL TO SERN MO...NWRN AR AND NERN THROUGH CNTRL TX ALONG WITH A PRE-FRONTAL TROUGH FROM SERN MO...CNTRL AR INTO NERN TX. MORNING RAOB DATA FROM LITTLE ROCK SHOWS A MARGINAL THERMODYNAMIC ENVIRONMENT WITH WEAK CAPE AND LAPSE RATES AOB 6 C/KM. HOWEVER...NO CONVECTIVE INHIBITION WAS INDICATED AND IF TEMPERATURES RISE TO THE MID 70S MLCAPE WILL LIKELY INCREASE TO BETWEEN 500-800 J/KT. VISIBLE IMAGERY INDICATES A ZONE OF MIXING AND PARTIAL CLEARING SHIFTING NEWD THROUGH NRN LA. THIS SUGGESTS AT LEAST MODEST WARMING AND DESTABILIZATION OF THE BOUNDARY LAYER WILL BE POSSIBLE AS FAR NORTH AS SRN AR DURING THE AFTERNOON. MODEL CONSENSUS IS THAT SRN BRANCH OF THE LOW LEVEL JET NOW OVER ERN TX WILL SHIFT NEWD THROUGH THE LOWER MS VALLEY TODAY IN ASSOCIATION WITH UPPER JET ENTRANCE REGION. GIVEN STRONG SHEAR PROFILES ALREADY IN PLACE...A SLOW AND MODEST BOUNDARY LAYER DESTABILIZATION MAY HELP STORMS DEVELOPING ALONG LOW LEVEL JET AXIS TO GRADUALLY INTENSIFY AND BECOME BETTER ORGANIZED AS SUPERCELLS AND BOWING SEGMENTS

northpittweather
Looks like somewhat warmer air moving up into Upper Ohio Valley, Western Appalachians, numerous low topped thunderstorms moving quickly to the northeast in Kentucky, these storms might have a threat for damaging winds and or weak brief tornadoes/landspouts, the threat might last through the overnight hours the whole way into southwestern pa, northern West Virgina, just like last night with those low topped storms that prompted tornado warnings in Indiana
