moneypitmike
Looks like someone just poured a huge bag of confectionary sugar (is that what it's called?) over us. Very heavy flakes attm, really limiting the vis. Let the good times roll. 13.4/
HoarfrostHubb
I think it's back to mostly snow now although I do hear some sort of pinging going on...it's pretty much mostly snow now though...keeps going all over though. Surprised you were up early today. All snow here still. Falling straight down unlike the last 2 bigger events. Pretty much no wind.
ski MRG
Radar shows IP in western Hampshire county at the moment. Pete--are you getting that now? 13.3/10 Nope. just came in from cleaning off the car as I'm about to head out. Nothing but beautiful snow and heavy at that, not big gloppy pre-change flakes either. Just perfect dendrites that are so numerous it looks like fog. holding at 12 degrees.

Really? Well OPS for skywarn was for 8:00 AM so I set my alarm for 7:50 AM but the pinging off my windows woke me up closer to 7:00-7:15 ish. Collinsville
WST, PVD, BDL, PYM, EWB..... all with zr, just for starters.. All sleet and I'm SW of BDL, no zr yet

mahk_webstah
this is the definition of poor snow growth probably, though not an expert on dendrites. we've accomplished one inch of snow in 2.5 hours. flakes are small and a little needly and almost grainy. will be lucky to get 4 inches by 2pm unless snow growth improves. Still pretty outside though.

wxmanmitch
IP mixing with SN. The fact that snow is still making it thru with the heavier echoes illustrates the thinness of the warm layer, at least for the time being. Up to 20. Warming up rapidly on the west slope. ski MRG
Actually just noticed it's up to 13.3. Went out and looked at the snow falling on the dark car rooftop, no contamination just snow, beautiful heavy snow.

A lot of areas along the pike (esp to your east) might fight the sleet line for a couple hours before it blitzes northward and everyone goes to IP and ZR. But the next couple hours could be interesting.

moneypitmike
Just reread ALY's AFD. The tainting they're calling for east of the CD is for IP not zr. I think we may get a pass on that (though I think a lot of folks here may disagree with me). 13.6/

Was just on the phone with my partner in Becket and he's still reporting heavy snow. I like that even in the southern spots like Hartford there are reports of it oscillating back to snow. over 4" now and bxes call for 7" here look possible now. It's dumping. Best dendrites of the morning - we'll see how long that last though. Roads are horrific up this way.
leesun
zr/sleet mix right now 21/18. I'm going to learn from my past mistakes and not clear the snow until the ice is all done so i can get under it. I think 1/2" of ice is on order here. Lol What are you guys basing this off of? There aren't even any reports of ZR yet.. wait til the sleet changes to ZR before you guys make that assumption

Pl won't be bad as it will help tack down the feet of powder now on the ground. More snow later in the week will be icing onthe cake.NPI

Went out and looked at the snow falling on the dark car rooftop, no contamination just snow, beautiful heavy snow. It looked to me like with the old runs you'd hang onto frozen longer than people thought. The new NAM just init'd somewhat colder than the prior two runs (what a surprise the NAM wasn't consistent yet again)....

Cold air damming should keep you snow a while longer over there on the east slope. I do think everyone around here changes over to IP or ZR here over the next couple of hours though. klw
The thermal profile on Mt. Washington is always interesting to watch during events like this. It is currently above freezing at the 4000 foot level but much lower down below and above. http://www.mountwash...on.org/weather/ edit : well that would work better if the numbers showed up. 10F at 2300 32.3 at 4000 19 at summit
