KWWD, the airport in Wildwood is the observing location. THe latest ob from 9:55 has them at 60F!!! I don't know about the accuracy, but it is from a designated NWS observing site. I don't know how erroneous it is, but given the surrounding temps, and waters which probably aren't nearly that warm, it may be another airport observing issue. I may take this over to the other regional thread (since this thread is primarily for NYC's/Upton's district) and have it investigated by the posters there.

these 60 degree numbers are difficult to believe - unisys temp grids aren't even close the nearest 60 is hundreds of miles offhore

drove from central nassau to riverhead for work...wow what a difference, it must have been close to 50 out there with almost no new snow, when i came back to central nassau, more north central, it was still 37-38 degrees and the snow was still on the driveway/steps...the gradient in 50 miles was insane.

I guess your not used to it out there in LI.. lol

50 miles is not a small gradient..

It is amazing, I talked about this yesterday, but somehow most of NW NJ almost always ends up at between 31-31.5 degrees for a high with every storm like this until the precip ends. It happens almost every time and I don't know how it is even possible. There must be a reason in physics for this, but once again, with the precip about to end here, the temperature has risen all the way to ----- 31.3. Amazing really. Tremendous amount of ice on the trees. Scattered power outages up here as well.

There is a nasty coastal front setup, you can even see the resultant band of heavier precip which has been sitting near NYC because of it.

yea that band has been just melting the snow...why cant we get development like that in snowstorms..

Pretty funny as I read this post I looked at my temp gauge and it reads .... 31.3 degrees. Precip has ended here as well and similar scene with the trees in Anodver area.

Still some light rain showers here in Westchester at 40/39.

Snowpack seems fine as the rain has been light, and it was well sealed by the icing this morning. About 6-7" remains on most people's lawns, with perhaps 10" or so in the wooded areas behind my house. This storm wasn't a big deal as most of the precipitation was frozen, and now all that remains is one round of showers/flurries coming through from the Ohio Valley. Adding some water to the snowpack was probably a good idea considering how the Miller B was all powder.

DAMAGE REPORT:

Town Time # injuries Damage Comments

Smithtown 2PM 0 Icefall from roof destroyed outdoor spots. They destroyed my @#$% snowlights!

Seriously...heard a crash and saw a pile of ice and the two outdoor floodlights smashed with metal and glass all over the snow. Need to fix that fast.

We torched to 45 here earlier and have fallen back to 39 now. Giant puddles at the foot of everyones driveways because the water cannot run off around the snow. We still have 12 - 13" of snowcover, although I expect that will keep shrinking most of the night and tomorrow.

The gutters really have been overflowed with ice for days now, Im amazed my haven't ripped away from the house from the weight.

The welcoming aspect of this two day thaw and rain, is that its assisted in washing away the salt that had been caked on many of the streets and curbs. Its also removed the top layers of some of the polluted grimy black snow. We can pile up afresh now...

I was concerned with ice damming causing water to flow into the house, but fortunately it hasn't happened. We had a problem with that last February. One of the advantages of howlers like the one in December is that they don't leave much snow on the roof. However, the advantage is lost if they blow the roof off ;)
