snownut
Looks like couple inches on my webcam. Heading out to my cabin shortly. Thin frozen mix on the ground from last night here at my Aldie house. 28 here and 22 out at my cabin.

TradeWinds
About 2:00 A.M., we had about 2" of snow in Frederick, MD. Changed to sleet and compacted it to a little over 1". Very little freezing rain including none on trees outside my house...must have stayed mostly snow and sleet.
smokeybandit
Clearing windshields of the ice was actually pretty easy, as the temps hit 32 at the time. Main roads were fine. Looked like they had been fine for quite some time.
mdhokie
My side street is like a sheet of ice. Warming the car up now. Looks like the larger roads are passible. Ice sucks.
mattie g
We had a nice, thick layer of sleet encrusted by freezing rain, which made it far easier to walk the dog on the lawns than on the sidewalks. Temp was 29 when I left, got up to 33 (and then back down to 32) in PG County, where we had some mist coming down at around 7:30. You could really see the difference in lasy night's precip between Fairfax and PG just by checking the ground - looks like very little sleet had fallen in PG in comaprison to Fairfax. Commute was a breeze once I got out of my neighborhood.

The crunchy layer of sleet underneath the ice made our side streets passable, even though it was still quite slick to walk on.
Swiscaster
28 & overcast here near Centreville; definitely surprised by the extent of the ice with this one side roads untreated and horrible Does it seem to you that we got less freezing rain in Centreville than other locales? I don't see much ice accumulation on trees. Mostly white sleety crust on the ground. 27.3 when I went to bed at 11pm, 28.3 now. Nice forecast, LWX! WinterWxLuvr
I'm also thinking that tonight might play out differently than what's currently forecast. LWX disco read as if they have conflicting ideas as to snow v rain, and it sure seems that presently it is much colder, and in some cases getting even colder, than what was modeled even 12 hours ago. notvirga!
Note of the temps. Some of the stations in northern WV, like Elkins, have dropped 8-10 degrees over the past couple of hours. Note of the precip. Measuring gave a measurement of right at 2" of snow and ice. But shoveling it makes me think that we had a bit more qpf than was forecast over my way. Last night when the snow fell, it was fairly powdery, dry, snow. But I guess we got more freezing rain in the night, because it was pretty heavy to shovel considering it was only about 2". Maybe its more compacted from sleet and zrain, but it doesn't look like we had that much in the SW portion of the county. Eyeballing it, looks more like 1-1.5 inches with a crusty coating. The trees and above ground wires have a coating of ice, but no more than a tenth of an inch or so. Nothing is sagging at all. The bulk of the precip that fell was sleet. Eyeballing it, looks more like 1-1.5 inches with a crusty coating. Interesting. Last night I kept watching radar, and the best echos consistently stayed to the south and east of 81, even though their movement should have taken then across 81 to my area. Must have been more sleet down in your area, and I guess the reasont echos were lighter up here is maybe it was more snow. I went to bed at 12:30, and we still had good snowfall rates at that time. The freezing drizzle/rain really compacted the snow up here, and I think we had to have passed 2 inches of snow before that happened. It stll measured above 1.75 even with the ice on top. Anyway, it doesn't matter, I was just glad to get some winter weather.
gymengineer
The NAM "sees" the extent of the wedge now and keeps the Maryland NW suburbs below freezing all day, until temps start to rise a bit overnight tonight before the next batch of rain. I doubt we climb temp wise much... at least for central md.. Most of us are in the mid 20s and with the winds still coming out of the north and west we will probably stay frozen for the coming batch of precip. I have no more than .75 total after compaction here. I did take a nice Jebwalk at midnight while the snow was coming down at a decent clip. It was nice. Its a mess now though. It was a pain in the ass to chop through the ice on my car, but the trees all looked fairly perky considering what might have happened. We had a pretty good sleetfest. cloudnut220
We have about an inch of snow/sleet/ice here in East Baltimore. Our immediate street is messy, but my husband (who had to go to work on time) reports that the roads were fine.
Herb@MAWS
Made the Columbia-to-DC commute between 8-9am. Very easy -- once out from the 'hood, main roads were at worst damp or wet. Traffic very light on the highways for the 8:00am hour on a Tuesday. Most dangerous part of the drive was the ice chunks flying off peoples' cars at 60mph. I saw a 2-foot by 2-foot sheet of ice fly off the top of a SUV -- it flew 20-30 feet up then knifed down into the road. I'm glad I wasn't closer behind him! I doubt 3" there wont be enough precip but 1-2 likely.

Was actually pretty easy to shovel the driveway...all came up in big chunks and plates. Cleaning off the car windows was naso much fun. I would say probably 0.1-0.15" of FZRA on top of about 0.6" of snow/sleet.
