Depends..are you getting mostly sleet? I've never seen sleet/snow fall as hard as it did in a long time. Visibility is something else completely.

Yea its essentially 100% sleet outside.

I do agree its falling with a high intensity, but you said it exceeded snowfall rates last year which is what I contest since it was essentially white out conditions with rates of nearly 2-3'' per hour..

IMO that beats the intensity in this storm.

Well, it was maybe 75% snow when it got here, and the flakes were quarter sized... last winter most of the heavier echoes missed me for some reason.

Who knows, maybe I've just never seen heavy winter precip in awhile & my eyes are overblowing things.

Mostly freezing rain here in Crofton with some sleet. Temps finally bottomed out and are starting to rise. Up to 28.2 from 28.0. Winds also have gone from N to ENE.

SN has just changed to SN/IP here in Clarksburg. Temp is 23.1F and the DP has dropped a degree to 22.3F in the last hour on NNE winds of 5mph. Just measured 1.1" on the deck. Here's a pic:

Nice. Do you see I95/NW changing over tonight to rain? Glad to see you posting again!

It should turn to freezing rain and rain everywhere eventually. I don't think places NW of 95 ever go above 32 with precip though. The CAD signature is very impressive.. this always happens when we get a storm during a -EPO pattern breakdown.

Sweet. Lets hope PEPCO's tree cutting project worked.

Dang Chuck you've got me by almost half an inch--but it sure is throwing it down right now. What're your temps like? Was 22.5 here last I checked.

My temp has been steady around 26 since the snow started. It's starting to slowly climb now though.

When it's snowing this hard, it's not surprising that there is a half inch difference in just a few miles. Most of my snow has fallen in the past 30 minutes. The flakes are huge. Pretty cool surprise storm.

At least not until the winds come in a more westerly direction

well I mean if you saw it at 75% snow with quarter sized flakes then it certainly would seem like high rates which I wouldn't doubt in the least.

I was experiencing it with pure ip so its a total different experience. Perhaps Im the one at fault since I havent had an experience with heavy IP.... I mean it was 50dbz...

Not your fault at all, probably mine for not mentioning flake size.

It is indeed. Just noticed LWX has bumped forecast to 1-3 overnight (say 1-3 sleet though--no sleet here yet though--closing on 2" last I checked, all snow)
