Pellice
This early AM, as with many other mornings, I wake up to see a sharply delineated cloud bank off to the east and southeast. As sunrise draws nearer, the cloudbank withdraws back to the ocean. Sometimes, as I drive towards the Shore in the early morning, I can see that I am "chasing" the cloudbank as it falls back. I'm hoping the many meteorologists here can explain the cloudbank's cause. Clearly, it is somehow related to the ocean, but why does it come onshore at night and retreat in the morning? Is it more common in one season than another? Does it usually totally disappear or just move far out to sea? Does this phenomenon have a name? Are there any layman's references from which to read about it? Many thanks!
