wxnut
Watson Lake, Yukon Territory (CXQH, syno 71199) near the Yukon/British Columbia border in NW Canada recorded a minimum of -63F (-52.8C) this morning. Lot's of -40C readings in that Yukon ridge..
beavis1729
Wow...very impressive!!! Per wikipedia, their normal low is -21F...so that's a departure of -42F. Their all-time record low is -74F...not too far off that. That Siberian air is loading up...but it's hard to say if it will come down into the U.S. Today's 12z Euro hints at it...but models have been all over the place. baroclinic_instability
Here is a high resolution satellite comparison from CIMSS. You can see the cold settled into the valleys. http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/110114_goes_avhrr_ir_anim.gif
Alpha5
Any chance of breaking the all time record low of -80? Seems unlikely but a cold snap that brings temps like -63 is nothing to laugh at
