Too bad EC doesn't issue advisories. I think they'd be useful.

They do issue special weather statements, though. It's nice to see that lately the media have been starting to relay the statements to the public unlike in previous years where they usually went unnoticed by everyone except EC themselves. Maybe the sudden change has come due to what happened on the 402 in December with the stranded motorists.

...but it would be great to see specific advisories to fill in the gap between light weather to extreme/severe weather. Less confusion for the public.

36.5" so far at MSN for the season, with that huge storm coming tomorrow. Looks like we're headed for an above average season.

The snowpack outside is already quite deep, to the point it's definitely encroaching on roads and sidewalks. Throwing another foot on that in the next few days could break the city's back.

22 years ago today the QC almost made it to 70 degrees, at 69. Made for the all-time warmest January temp on record for us. I remember that day well, as I pretended to be sick so I could stay home from school and enjoy the warmth. Temps like that seem almost unfathomable right now with the overall lack of torches this winter here.

Looks like we got two possibilities in the next 7 days then the mother load of cold air comes down behind storm 2. Here is the debate right now... Joe Bistardi and some others think behind that mother load of cold we rapidly warm for the rest of the month. Winter heads west and we get mild and a tease spring before we go back cold relative to average in March. Thoughts?

With all the storm disco I forgot to do my Jan 2011 post mortem:

Snow: 20.0"

Precip: 1.75"

Days with meas. snow: 14

Heaviest snow: 5.7"

Running a big time precip. deficit this winter.

Predicted 8-9" for December imby. Ended up pretty close with 9.2" (assuming nothing else falls this month).

I'll go with a range of 4-6" for January. As with December, my reasoning = none.

;)
