GL/MW/OV January 2011 Disco Part II

Chicago Storm

Recommended Posts

My 7AM was 0.8" with .04" liquid (20:1). The temp was only 13 at the time. Still have SN here and 19, ratios probably dropping a little. Looks like I may end up with at least 2", still have some decent returns to my SW. Overperformer.

Good call. :)

62.6º inside. Nice and crisp.

Not in my house, Bro's gf keeps this house a nice toasty 74 and guess who has the entire upstairs where this 74 degree heat rises to. Lets just say blankets are optional and a window or 2 have been known to be opened a hair. :(

Its a pic I found probably 5 years ago off of tinypic... I have no idea where it comes from, but it looks like Russia or eastern Europe... Funny stuff. That chick is insane.

Yeah, I was just kidding. :)

On sort of the same note, they had a polar bear plunge deal here last Saturday. Temps in the teens and getting into water. No thank you.

Ended up with 1.5" imby and 1.7" at DTW. Overperformer for sure! Tonight it is gorgeous outside, and its EXACTLY why I like living in a dependable, "nickel and dime" winter climate over a feast or famine one. The snowpack has a fresh blanket over it, all the big old snowbanks have that velvety fresh look, etc. Looks like mid-winter at its finest, exactly why I said that crusty glacier would come in handy as a base :)

I would definitely call this a REAL winter around here. If we can make it until at least mid to late February without any real thaw then I don't know how a winter lover can complain about this winter. We have about 10 inches of snow on the ground and the temp hasn't been above freezing here since the thaw around New Year.

Yeah. I knew you mustve had some deeper snow in the thumb. Here, we havent had the deep snow yet, hell depth-wise we peaked at 12" in 2009-10, 14" in 2008-09, and 10" (numerous times) in 2007-08...yet thus far in 2010-11 peak depth has only been 6". HOWEVER...depth has been 4-6" most of the time since mid-December, and the only bare period since the beginning of December was Jan 1-4th, so again, that is a great winter for a true winter lover (not so much so for those just into big storms).

This is crazy, apparently this year in Nashville is snowier than last year to date with 9.3" thus far, and that will surely go up tomorrow night. :arrowhead:

And it's just insane to think several states & cities in the south have seen bigger snowstorms in the past two seasons than majority of the midwest SE of Iowa-Wisconsin-Nebraska-Kansas.

Nice pictures from the King of snow piles, Josh.

You'd thought we had 3-4 inches the way he does his magic with a camera. :)

Nashville is at 9.3" this year, and was 0.7" last year to date, above normal this year and below last. They may get a slushy inch tomorrow. I dont get whats so crazy about that? And thats last sentence is really stretching it. Just as an example, the Feb 9/10, 2010 snowstorm officially dropped 12.9" in Chicago, 12.1" in Toledo, and 8.6" in Detroit. Please tell me what places in the south have eclipsed those numbers. And certainly to make it fair, i dont want to see some unofficial lollipop/jackpot report, because Im sure I can find a lot of the same in the midwest. Im sure you can find an isolated spot in the south, but the whole generalization is just wrong. The sentence would be factual if it read "isolated spots in the south have seen bigger snowstorms in the past two seasons than isolated spots of the midwest". Seriously, the exaggerations are getting old.

lol :) Wide driveway and frequent snowfalls will do the trick. Most of the piles were there anyway, this snow was just a nice refresher. My brother, who is wintered out, said today "I didnt know it was going to snow today, I had to clean off my car 4 times today. Were probably going to sneak up to one of the snowiest winters on record because instead of getting big snowstorms were getting like an inch or two every other day".
