Gonna need a blizzard of the century for that to happen. I'm (frankly, we're) overdo for one, so maybe the law of averages will work in your favor.

I don't know, we have at least another 60 year window (for you, 30 year window) before we're overdue for a blizzard of the century.

That said, we are overdo for a run of the mill blizzard and/or 10"+er

Everybody got fluff except me! Sort of pisses me off. My 0.03" liquid could have been so much more.

Im guessing you got the sandy type of snow? Thats what we had when grazed by the OV storm a few days ago. On the bright side, it doesnt settle much. Not that theres much to settle, our fluff had almost no water in it. As I said you can see drifty tops on top of the snowpack lol.

In the mean time, starting to get mildly interested in tomorrow. RGEM and NAM put a good 0.10" qpf in SE MI (GFS about half that, but GGEM more), snow looks to start out with very cold temps but once the snow passes temps look to soar to near 30F tomorrow evening. We shall see what it brings, as we keep nickel and diming our way right along. Looking at pics of Jan 22, 2005, I really hope our big one comes in February as I have been feeling it will. A cold, white winter pattern, one I always long for, is pretty much starting to set my grade for the winter in stone. If we keep nickel/diming our way along but get no storms greater than the 6.3" storm in December, this winter will earn a solid A- from me. If we get an 8"+ storm yet this winter, my grade will be an A, and a 10"+ storm my grade an A+ (a 15"+ storm it gets an A+++).

Same here.

I only saw occasional pixie dust, enough for a dusitng.

I missed out on the isolated lake effect snow showers (which it appears that's what michsnowfreak saw judging from his pictures).

Those pics I posted were from Jan 22, 2005 blizzard lol. Didnt get any impressive lake showers here at all. Just light fluffy snow all afternoon.

This! On a side note, DTW is at 22.0", exactly halfway to a normal winter of 44.0" in this which will be the last winter we use the 1971-00 normals.

Im at 27.0" here northern Oakland cty... average 52" I give it a 40% chance of hitting average. Im thinking March might be eventfull

Yeah Josh, sandy snow. My most hated of all accumulating snows (that's a relative hatred though, because I love snow in general ).

And based on your scenario, if we continue to nickel and dime our way to AOA normal snowfall without a big storm, this winter would earn a solid B or B+. Only way to get an A without a big one is for there to be like 5 or 6 more 3-6" events, and 70"+ for the season at the end of it.

Nice to see it ripping there, even if it may not last long.

It's warmed up quiet a bit here since early morning. Up to 18 now with full sunshine.

Thanks! It was quite the surprise, too. If my dad didn't call me to tell me he got called in to the airport I prob would have missed it. Winding down now not before it dropped at least an inch. Every time I get a little taste of LES I realize how lucky John Dee is to live UP in the weenie capital of the MW.. Hope one day I can live his dream and get out of of here in winter. Just not enough snow for me in the MW if you don't live down wind of a GL

Yeah it would be awesome to live in one of the main snow belts around any of the Lakes. I've never even seen lake effect snow lol. There was one time a winter or two ago that some light returns did make it this far west with some flurries. :guitar:

That is exactly how 06-07 played out here. Difference ofcourse was that had the epic Jan torch. Most of what did fall came after the Jan torch so it is possible to have that happen.

Glad the lake gave you a little love. Had my lake tease yesterday. I eventually wanna be closer to the lake as well. Somewhere between Kalamazoo and Bloomingdale.

so sunny today, sparkles, shadows, and sunglasses rule the day. When in the park I realized you really have to be more careful than usual, lots of hidden ice everywhere. Some spots the snow is so hard you literally do not make an indent in it, outside of the layer of powder on top. Avg snow depth is 3-4" with ~0.5" water content in it, though you can find spots as low as 1-2" and high as 5-6", not counting drifty open areas.

wow...that is a small little storm along the lake...

Michsnow-

How do you still have open water? Is there current in there?

Oh yeah; its the Detroit River. Between the swift current and the ice cutters it will never freeze solid no matter how cold. Lakes and ponds are another story, its safe to ice skate anywhere. The river will be getting ice flows (from Lk St Clair) thru April. Whats funny is every day is a guess. Some day you can drive by and it is mostly open water, the next day you drive by and there are ice flows all drifted up against the shore looking like somewhere in antarctica.

The Detroit River used to freeze every winter like the St. Clair River, didn't it?
