looks like another arctic shot for next weekend around here after a brief warmup for later in the week...both euro/gfs have strong L diving to the lakes, hope it can come in further sw

That is weather pron. Loving the threat for a true arctic front--none of this arctic high garbage seeping and trickling in like last event.

Today is the 6th year anniversary of a REAL winter storm, everything was perfect about it (received over a foot from it and several hours of non-stop heavy/wind driven snow).

That event sucked locally, although I was not denied as I went on a lake effect chase that evening.

Yeah i don't think many down that way on down to i70 cared much for that as it did the last minute jump north on the models. I remember you chasing that though. Took some great pics if i recall correctly as well?

Too bad i only caught the tail end of it as i had to work 3rd that night it hit and did alot of the damage.

Yeah I remember the north jump. I think the ETA or NAM or whatever was hinting at that.

Unfortunately I didn't take any pics during my chase.

Hmmm.. Maybe i am mixing it up with another chase of yours?

And yes i do believe it was the ETA/now NAM that caught on to the north trend first.

was that a manitoba mauler? That was a heartbreaker here. We were pegged for 6-10" and ended up with a dusting. Knowing then what i know now, i would have been very leary of a storm like that not dryslotting us or jumping north. I bet we've never received over 6" from a northern stream system like that.

It was in a class of its own. A PV coming out of the pacific (panhadle hooker) merged with another PV coming out of Canada (the clipper) over Ohio. One of the SPC mesoscale discussions brought it up stating renewed cyclonegensis was taking place over Ohio.

As of the evening before the storm began we were only forecasted to see 6-10". This was probably one of my favorite overachievers.

Well CMH saved a little face and recorded 2.2" with that storm, but it was a WI/BowMe to ORD to southern 1/2 of lower MI special.

BTW, here's a little radar loop of a portion of that storm. You can toggle the options/times and dates on the left hand side.

hmmm, we did get a couple inches eh, that's right, i think that came at the very beginning and if i recall it was with a couple claps of thunder. The other thing i remember about that storm was after it was crystal clear that we had been screwed by the dryslot, never to recover, ole henry margusity updated his blog saying he was sticking with his 6-10 call across ohio due to the ULL that would be coming in :arrowhead::lightning:

Cruel storm for both of us. We had an hour of mod-heavy snow in the morning...then overcast and spits of snow until just after noon...followed by some decent snow until about 4. The end. That was one of the seemingly rare times that LAF and CMH looked to both get hit pretty hard. No wonder it didn't happen for either of us.:(

Wow, what I'd give to have persistent greens pivot over me for over 6 hours again.

seems like that event is brought up once in awhile on here, was a perfect event for me in northern IL, around 10" synoptic with 3" from LE the next day. still remember that storm quite well. the clipper on steriods. I think I actually have Skilling's wx segment from that night on tape somewhere.

We had 10.5 inches of lake enhanced/lake effect snow here today. Almost two feet of snow on the ground now! Getting difficult to see around all the snow piles...but it's beautiful!

Glad to hear things have turned for the better lately for you. Keep chipping away at that deficit. :)

Thanks for the well-wishes. This is definitely more like what I was expecting when I moved here. The 40 mile difference between here and Grand Rapids is amazing...they've had something like 17 inches this month while we've had 45 inches.
