Chicago Storm

Recommended Posts

Forecasting this stuff here where i am i do admit is a bit of a challenge considering i am inland a bit and usually on the line. With THIS GRR has never been so hot with. Usually too much or too little. I as well think that like many others the problem is they get caught up in seasonal etc trends which is never a good thing when you let it overwhelm your reasoning/calls. See it here all the time and thus note those who who think every storm is gonna do the same thing.

Some very nice lake effect set up this morning. At times maybe 1/4 mile visibility. Looks like it is winding down now. Had a pretty uniform 3 1/2" - 4" in open areas with some decent drifting. At least another inch maybe a little more has fallen today. Looking forward to a little more tomorrow.

Gino's thoughts on the patern:

THE NEXT WEEK OR SO IS SHAPING UP TO BE FAIRLY UNEVENTFUL WITH BELOW

AVERAGE TEMPS AND PRECIP LIKELY TO CONTINUE...THOUGH LESS BONE

CHILLINGLY COLD THAN THIS MORNINGS TEMPS.

return to the good old winters of the mid 90's cold and dry..while watching the EC boys get laced :fever:

Thats the way it was in the mid 90's very frustrating

Here's a positive update to a story I posted last year involving a South Bend WSBT tv met.

A major update today concerning the case against WSBT Chief Meteorologist Rick Mecklenburg.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor has dismissed all charges against Mecklenburg.

He was arrested Nov. 30 and later charged with two counts of false informing after he reported police hit his car, and he was being shot at.

South Bend police said there was no evidence either of those was true.

In exchange for the charges being dismissed, Mecklenburg has agreed to pay court costs, complete an approved counseling assessment, and not commit any criminal offense for the next year.

One inch of LES here at Elkhart Dunlap.

Clouds thickening up some here. Looks like most of the models give us around 0.05" of precip tonight. With very high snow to water ratios we'll probably pick up another inch or so of feathers, much like the other day. The quality of the snow isn't all that great, but it's still kind of nice to look out and see it snowing.

From the University of Waterloo:

A very cold Sunday forecasted

Environment Canada is forecasting a high of only -17 C on Sunday. If this were to happen it would be the coldest high temperature for any day since January 19th, 1994 when the high was a very frigid -21.3 C.

TWN has the wind chill at -27C/-17F for Sunday, too.

I think the January 25-27 1978 analog needs to be considered majorly for the January 29-31 period. Phffttt, a couple of changes to that 168-192 and we are there!!!!

Wow, now that is what I call crazy talk. The great blizzard, The Cleveland Bomb, The worst snowstorm in Ohio's history? That's some analog you're wanting to throw out there. Might wanna post something to back a statement like that up if you're gonna throw out 78' as an analog, crazy man lol..
