URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GRAY ME

918 AM EST WED JAN 12 2011

...HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WILL IMPACT SOUTHERN AND WESTERN

MAINE AND NORTHERN...CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST NEW HAMPSHIRE TODAY...

A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL CROSS CAPE COD THIS MORNING THEN

TRACK THROUGH THE GULF OF MAINE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING BEFORE

HEADING OUT TO SEA LATER TONIGHT. THIS STORM SYSTEM WILL BRING

HEAVY SNOW ALONG WITH BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW TO THE ENTIRE

REGION TODAY WITH THE SNOW WINDING DOWN THIS EVENING.

SNOW WILL ACCUMULATE AN INCH AN HOUR THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON AND

INTO THIS EVENING...WITH ACCUMULATIONS OF 2 OR 3 INCHES AN HOUR

LIKELY AT TIMES ACROSS COASTAL...SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL AREAS OF

MAINE AND NEW HAMPSHIRE. THIS WILL LEAVER ANYWHERE FROM 6 TO 18

INCHES OF SNOW ACROSS THE REGION...WITH THE LOWEST AMOUNTS IN THE

MOUNTAINS AND THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS ACROSS SOUTHEAST NEW HAMPSHIRE

AND SOUTHWEST MAINE. A FEW LOCATIONS MAY EVEN TOP 20 INCHES OF

SNOW FOR THIS EVENT.WINDS GUSTING BETWEEN 25 AND 35 MPH FROM THE NORTH OR NORTHEAST

WILL CREATE CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WHICH WILL

IMPACT SNOW PLOWING EFFORTS AND ADD TO THE TREACHEROUS DRIVING

CONDITIONS. NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WITH VERY POOR VISIBILITY

ARE POSSIBLE AT TIMES...ESPECIALLY OVER EXPOSED AREAS OPEN TO THE

GUSTY NORTH OR NORTHEAST WINDS. A FEW LOCAL POWER OUTAGES ARE

POSSIBLE AS WELL.

I'm not sure I buy that Newtown total..Esp at 8:40 in the morning

I think it might be right. Someone sent me pics from there, and they're ridiculous. Of course that includes the foot they got Friday, but I could believe they got at least two feet out of this, and it's still snowing there. Some of those inland areas where the pockets of moderate to heavy at times snow persist will break 30 inches. Perhaps Newtown to New Milford to Bridgewater area.

I have to admit I chuckle every time you question somebody else's measurement.

What have you received in Old Lyme? Waiting for my measurements still. Have some pics - looks like 15 inches or so.

how much did you get? your in greenwich right?

Yeah I'm at work so I didn't take a measurement, but I had to walk through it a bit taking the train this morning. Seems like a solid foot. I saw your 14.5 - seems about right since you're in backcountry so you always get more than us along the water.
