NorthShoreWx
Like Alex, I didn't expect to wake up to a perfectly blue sky. You need to drive about 25 miles to your northeast. We're still snowing at better than 1" per hour. Approximately 15" new snow so far. Ed
A-L-E-X
Hey man, you actually anticipated my next post. I thought it might be interesting to show how varied the conditions were across our area, so I made a chart of the varied cloudcover all across our region. Take a look at this:
bkviking
Next door to Port Jefferson in Miller Place this is the worst of the storms the past 3 years I've lived here. The predominant drift pattern coming northwest across the sod farm has buried me
psv88
About 10-11 inches in central nassau...just south of roslyn, about 1 mile northwest of where the meadowbrook hits the northern state...snow was light and fluffy, much much easier to shovel than the blizzard where we got 18-19....this is much less annoying...and prettier
LocoAko
8.5" of new snow here in Jersey City, NJ. Exactly what Upton's forecast had me at! A few reports around me seem to be higher, and there was some drifting of snow, but meh. Measued in the most open spot in my backyard on a snowboard. The snow is very fluffy and nice. bkviking
You can attest to the almost surreal situation up here... My fellow worker sent me a video with the sun breaking out in Lindenhurst, and I send him one of the artillery assault of snow and wind here. I work for the county so I'm trying my best to get In but...it just seems impossible for hours.

jconsor
William - looking at the radar loop, I strongly suspect LI Sound enhancement from about Smithtown east to Mattituck in the past few hours with the WNW flow. Very rare to see Sound enhancement on a wind with a westerly component, but that's what seems to be happening. The highest totals on Long Island have been coming in along the North Shore of Suffolk County - Centerport, Smithtown, Kings Park, Port Jeff, etc. http://www.rap.ucar....e=-1&duration=6 About 23" on the ground...about 19" new snow... Thanks Alex! Usually you have N-NE winds then as storm moves away naturally things dry out and winds turn NW. Since this really got going it's been driving the heaviest snow almost directly at my place facing west on sod farm.
