dendrite
Absolute whiteout here now. This is the 1/9SM stuff that Canterbury was just in. Not epic snow growth, but still damn good. The key is there's just an immense amount of flakes right now. I can barely see the trees in my backyard.
dendrite
Up to 5.5" now. Did you see your cam from earlier this morning? I couldn't even see the red boathouses across the channel. This snow right now is awesome. Just dumping.
BrokenASOS
6.1" Thick and heavy band coming in off the Gulf. Good times straight ahead. Just about where you are down near the coast as well. Was at just north of 5" at 9. PWM has been at 1/4SM for 3 hours now, but winds only about 20 sustained. Who knows, I think we might actually end up verifying with marginal blizzard conditions later today as the h7 low pulls just off the coast. Mad River
This whole Advisory vs. Warning business sure has me a little confused. It seems like it should not just be tied to quantity over long periods of time but also to time frames of heavy snow/hour. Like right now we have an Advisory here, but it is snowing so hard that it could well be warning time. So is this all about what you finish up with for totals in the end? Or also about warning people that the roads could be a mess and even with plows out they will be covered 1/2 hour later. Just not sure if I get it. toller65
As Maine Jayhawk pointed out - this is going to be a bust for GYX crew 7" on the ground here in Yarmouth, ME at 945 AM AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GRAY ME 339 AM EST WED JAN 12 2011 ...NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/... LOW PRESSURE MOVING NORTHWARD TOWARD CAPE COD AT THIS TIME. LARGE SHIELD OF SNOW IS PUSHING NORTHWARD THROUGH SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND AND INTO SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE. EXPECT SNOW TO INCREASE IN INTENSITY THROUGH THE MORNING FROM SOUTH TO NORTH AS LOW PRESSURE OCCLUDES NEAR CAPE COD...THEN BEGINS MOVING EAST. AS DRY SLOT WRAPS AROUND THE LOW...THERE IS SOME CONCERN THAT THIS MAY HAVE A NEGATIVE EFFECT ON TOTAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS AND MAY SHIFT THE AXIS OF HEAVIEST SNOW AWAY FROM THE COAST THIS AFTERNOON. BUT AT THIS TIME...STILL EXPECT HEAVIEST TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS TO FALL FROM SOUTHEAST NEW HAMPSHIRE THROUGH THE COAST OF MAINE WHERE 6 TO 12 INCHES IS EXPECTED TO FALL. FURTHER NORTH AND WEST...ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE LIGHTER WITH GENERALLY 3 TO 6 INCHES EXPECTED IN THE NORTH AND MOUNTAINS. THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY HAS BEEN EXPANDED TO INCLUDE ALL NORTHERN AREAS THOUGH AREAS NORTH OF THE MOUNTAIN RIDGES MAY ONLY SEE A FEW INCHES TODAY BEFORE UPSLOPE SNOWS BEGIN TONIGHT. Just because there are yellows to your east it doesn't necessarily mean you're getting lighter snow. Your cam is redonkulous right now...just like it was here. powderfreak
We've quickly dropped to very low visibility... its under a 1/4 mile on the mountain without a doubt. Can barely see across the parking lot. ASOS at Stowe-Morrisville MVL is down to 1/4 mile after only a half hour of snow... so it hits hard. MPV is getting crushed... 0.17" liquid at 15F in one hour with the rare ASOS <1/4 visibility.. easily 2"/hr there.

mahk_webstah
Wow on that shot from Weirs...must be sliding over this way because the heavyheavy is back with a venegance after a 20 minute pause. I'm think us here in Merrimakc cty might experience the trifecta: heavy waa advection snows followed by ccb/deformation and capped off by a pivot point. I think GYX is conservative still...8-18? everyone is already over 8 and looking at the radar it should be 12-20 with isolated to
