How much did you have on the ground before? The good thing about here (not really "good" but good for measurement lol) is that we had large patches of bare ground. Even though it's been cold, the sun is still able to melt the snowcover away.

I still had about 1 to 2 iches on the ground in most spots. I made sure I cleared away areas before this storm, so I could make proper measurments.

Montauk is continuing the plunge--this storm is still bombing way faster than modeled. Montauk dropped 5 hpa the last hour! Down to 991.4 hpa

Jason, the low still hasnt made "landfall" yet has it? It might pass west of Montauk!

...not to mention exceptionally heavy snow...from the snow left over and shoveled towards my mailbox at the end of the driveway, the mailbox is not too far from being submerged...

It's safe to say no mail delivery for you today, William.... I think it's a fair trade off, dont' you? ;)

Montauk down 28 hpa in 10 hours. That is absolutely amazing surface deepening.

While these images are still up..check out the abysmal performance by the 12z GFS

24 hr forecast

06 hr forecast from 06z this morning

http://www.meteo.psu...EAST_6z/f06.gif

think we learned that the gfs is no good with this banding since its a low res atleast lower then the nam and even the euro didnt do that great here, almost 12" or over now i was at 10" at 4:00 and its only lightened a little bit.

This storm is deepening so fast it is stalling already. Did anyone notice the deformation band hasn't moved much the last hour?

Stalling SW of Montauk? Maybe that's why the backend has slowed down. I wonder if there'll be some redevelopment to the west.....

Wow. Mayor Bloomberg decided to keep the city schools open today despite some areas of the city receiving nearly 10 inches of snow. Some weenies who are students are going to consider this storm a bust now.:axe::lmao::lol:

I won't lie... When mom asked, back in the day, if I wanted to take the test for Tech, Stuy, or Science, snow days did play into my decision.

Dobbs Ferry, NY (Southern Westchester)

13.25"

Moderate Snow

22.9/21

Was out shoveling for a while, snow is light as a feather. Has surprisingly picked back up here after a lull. What gives?

Read the posts lol-- the storm is stalling south of Montauk and strengthening-- looks like there might be some backbuilding ;)

Coastal front continues to back west into eastern CT - another sign the low may make landfall over the Twin Forks.

Groton, CT and Newport, RI both reporting rain now!

That's a historic level deformation band over Long Island into Southern New England..holy cow.

I mentioned last night that the RUC nowcast was showing a band that reminded me of Feb 2006 across western CT and that is being realized now...filling in across central CT, but I am very interested to see who winds up with the most snow out of this...

The streets should be fine for the am rush if my street is any indication of the snow removal efforts....I've seen the front end loader go past twice followed by a plow truck/salter. Road is black. That didn't happen in the blizz until the sun melted the snow away. Im not suprised school is open in nyc

Yeah it is beginning to make all models look amazingly silly. It is really on its own now. No model can simulate this. This was one of the surprises I mentioned last night. Here is one. Making landfall on eastern LI. Considering it is still deepening, that deformation band may continue to sit and intensify over central LI.
