famartin
The Upper low which is currently over western PA and Eastern Ohio ..correct? That is what i am referring to as the primary because it is my understanding that this is what is going to hand off to the coastal . If it is not that...then please point me to the image above from SPC where this "low" is... No. The "primary" is the *surface* low over the midwest, not the upper-level low. So long as the primary remains potent, the coastal will struggle.
NickD2011
Light snow in Bordentown now sticking to cars. The low is still about 100 miles southeast of Norfolk. Once it starts bombing the precip shield will intensify in a matter of hours.
famartin
That's probably IP/ZR. That's what I'm thinking too. Snow mixed in probably, but not all snow.

The_Global_Warmer
That's what I'm thinking too. Snow mixed in probably, but not all snow. Might be some banding which could cause Hampster Flakes and cause high returns on radar.
KC2GYU
We've had some sleet, and some rain. It's currently raining, 35 degrees with a dew point of 33. I'm just off shore of Sea Isle City, NJ.

KC2GYU
Offshore? As in, on a boat? No, I apologize...down this way we call "off shore" to be inland from the barrier islands. I'm in Seaville, which is about 2 miles inland from the northern end of Sea Isle City.
stormman
according to Steve D he says an avg btw the 6z nam and oz euro would be closted to where the low is forming now, none of the other models were even close.

So long as the primary remains potent, the coastal will struggle. I have circled the area of low pressure on the 18 Z NAM as reference for 00z tonight. This low pressure area circled is basically in the same general vicinity as the SPC image that i posted before.. Now what you are saying is its not this area of low pressure that transfers to the coastal?

Now what you are saying is its not this area of low pressure that transfers to the coastal? No, what you circled is the primary. That's a surface pressure prog. What I'm saying is that the primary appears to be significantly stronger than expected. The primary must weaken to allow the coastal to strengthen... as long as the primary remains as potent as it is now, the coastal will struggle in its development. This will likely delay its development until its too far NE to have a big impact on much of NJ and E PA.

Keith O
Friend just called and said light sleet/rain mix and 32 in Berlin, NJ. Started as snow but has now go over to sleet/rain mix. Maybe HPC was onto something went they seemed to be hitting the sleet aspect pretty hard for parts of NJ in their afternoon discussion.

Steve is either going to be a genious, or he's going to have an epic bust. This isn't the time to talk crap though, or the thread for it. At least wait until the storm is over to do so.
