weatherman5416
A really nice band south and west of the city. Anyone under this band? It needs to move northeast a little. Probably 1-2 inches in this band. It just stopped snowing, but it was pretty heavy with big flakes for about 15 minutes... enough to give another coating. jonjon
Interesting that Huron is warmer than Erie. Is that because Huron is a larger lake, so it'll take longer for it to freeze over? Not so much that it is larger -- but that it is deeper. Same goes for Lake Ontario which is similar in size to Erie, but rarely freezes because of its depth, even though it is further north than Erie. If I remember correctly Erie is the shallowest of the great lakes.

RitualOfTheTrout
Just glanced at the 18z GFS and it is a little frustrating. Looks like a decent over running setup then a weak low pressure system tracking inland just east of the Apps but the temperatures don't look conducive for snow. Will be interesting to pay attention to the position of those high pressure systems in Canada.
north pgh
I have been under a snow band for the last hour. I have picked up about 3/4 of an inch in that time period. Just took out the dog and all side streets are covered.

Jen16226
Good morning! My commute down 28 was made interesting by a band that was coming through just above Freeport. The roads were getting covered very quickly. Up in Armstrong, we received another 1" overnight. Safe commutes to all.
Karl_Racki
It cracks me up that people still don't know how to drive in this stuff.. The roads weren't bad at all. Its been snowing down here straight since about 1 PM yesterday afternoon, roads are actually pretty good, but still people hitting their brakes, then some are flying. In Peters, Epic Fail on the road crews, 19 was a slurpee most of the day yesterday and my block, it's a mess. We have a week straight of intermittent snow showers what maybe some rain, ice and ZR thrown in next Monday\Tuesday. I know budget cuts, but they have the money for new uniforms for the Pee Wee football leagues, money for the new lights at the baseball stadium. Always money there for parents to live vicariously through kids sports.. . Salt and additional plows and staff, nah... Next weeks system bears looking at..still a nice overunner

I have to drive through there a couple days a week for work. I think it was last Thursday we had some snow showers move through the area. The roads were terrible in Peters. As soon as I got out of Peters and into Mt. Lebanon, the roads were wet the rest of the way. Every where else I drove was wet. Peters was the one area with slop on the roads. Karl_Racki
Honestly, I don't blame crews at all. People should learn how to drive and get vehicles that are capable of handling the winter in this area.
CoraopolisWx
I have to say the backside precip has been much more impressive than I thought. The 700mb RH has stayed favorable throughout, abd this was something I had doubt's about. It seems like there has been a band near or above the turnpike for a day and a half now. Hey Racki, do you live in the manchester neighborhood ( northside ) ?
