CoraopolisWx
The metro area seems more chopped up than usual with this event. I know there is a tight gradiant with p-types usually, but it's really sharp right now.

north pgh
Up to 33.6 here. Same as everyone else. I had a glaze of ice on the driveway and sidewalk. Some ice forming on the trees but a lot of dripping. Very foggy too. I am off to Butler for some work. I am anticipating more ice as the temps drop heading North but hopefully the main roads are fine. Just as I was typing this my temp dropped to 33.2. RitualOfTheTrout
Unfortanatly it's a sickness most of us have, I guess that's why we're here. LOL, yeah, Ill admit a part of me was curious to see what would happen if we had gotten .5 or more zr. Of course, I am capable of surviving several days without power. I have an alternate way to keep my family warm (ventelss gas heater in the downstairs game room), gas hot water tank, gas stove, and gril with full propane tank for cooking etc. However, it would get old pretty quickly I think. Either way, I think climo won this one again for our area.

CoraopolisWx
Damn, if I was in Charleston WV, i'd be at the driving range right now. CoraopolisWx
On a more serious note, it appears that temps just north of pgh are still right around freezing, so the initial precip this evening could make things slick for awhile. Although north of 422 looks to be where the nasty conditions will be. The dewpoint around Pgh is above 32 in many areas, so we should be in the clear. Plus the storm is looking more wound, so the warm air should rush in pretty fast county wide. On a side note, the folks in Chicago especially the southside, could be in for a rude suprise. With the storm more wrapped up, sleet could chop down alot of folks snow totals. I know, sour grapes here, but just sayin'.

CoraopolisWx
I have noticed the dewpoint dropping this afternoon. It was around 33F earlier, now it's down to 31F at KPIT. north pgh
Since we are pretty much out of this storm (with the exception of some back end snow showers tomorrow) I want to see what everyone thinks about the 2 potential storms starting to show up on the models. It looks like we may get a piece of the storm coming up the coast on Saturday and early next week a more potent storm moving up from the gulf. I don't even want to think about another miss east and a cutter. The detour sign needs to do it's magic again and at least give us a decent snowfall. Comments? Yeah, I brought the potential weekend storm up yesterday and then Digger yelled at me. LoL The models seem to be in pretty good agreement on that one to maybe give us a few inches here. It looks like it would be on Saturday, like you said, so we might be in the clear for all the Super Bowl activities Sunday if it does get us. The one after that seems to have more potential for us if it tracks just right. Not betting on that with our luck, but you have the detour sign in full force, so you never know. Neither one looks like it would give us "the big one" at this point, but they're both storms that could give us some decent amounts, especially the second one. Definitely an active pattern we're in right now. Hopefully, we get lucky with one of these before it gets too late in the season. Phil will tell us tomorrow what we have in store the rest of the way. RitualOfTheTrout
Looking at the radar and reading the OV thread it looks like that mixed precip shield should hit us but as soon as it hits the PA border it turns to rain. How is it that central ohio is so much colder than us? I guess it must be the track of the low.

weatherman5416
If you look at the radar, it looks fairly ominous right now. Accuweather radar has me in freezing rain and the dbz values are 30-35.
north pgh
Alot of freezing rain in the Ohio thread. It sounds like a lot of power outages are starting. I am glad that is not us. I will take the regular rain over ice. Bring on the snows later this week.
CoraopolisWx
Looking at the radar and reading the OV thread it looks like that mixed precip shield should hit us but as soon as it hits the PA border it turns to rain. How is it that central ohio is so much colder than us? I guess it must be the track of the low. Like you mentioned earlier, all that sun we got yesterday combined with the clouds moving in right after sunset created a perfect combo for maximum warmth. So instead of temps being in the 30-32F range, we've been mostly in the 33-35F range.

I know it's always a long shot, but I would like to see a blizzard before the winter is over.
blackngoldrules
And rightly so... I knew saying that would get another response out of you! Hey, I admitted that was my bad on that. I let the weather part of me overtake the sports part of me on that one. What's funny is, if we escape that storm, there's another one that could happen a couple of days after the Super Bowl. That would probably be the day of the victory parade.....if the Steelers win of course. That's still a long way off though. The way storms have been dodging us this winter, I wouldn't be surpised if that one does as well.
RitualOfTheTrout
This illustrates the classic SWPA screw hole perfectly. I know in this case we are avoiding ZR but usually we see this with snow around us like that.
