It should change to snow as the heavier band comes through. The reason some are getting light freezing rain is the cloud depth has not been sufficient to get the cloud top temperatures below minus 8 or 10C. When the stronger vertical motions starts in the band to your west, the depth of the clouds will increase and the cloud tops should be cold enough to support snow.

Are those 35dbz returns moving out of the WV panhandle even snow? Is that a big line of sleet moving in? The low to the west being stronger than modeled has certainly pulled in more warmer air aloft.

Agreed - We have a warm layer aloft. I don't have bufkit - But I do have some freezing drizzle.

EVENING...

A BAND OF MODERATE SNOW HAS DEVELOPED ACROSS THE EASTERN WEST

VIRGINIA PANHANDLE AND WILL MOVE EASTWARD TOWARD THE BALTIMORE

AND WASHINGTON METRO THROUGH 7 PM. PORTIONS OF THIS BAND WILL ARRIVE

ACROSS THE WESTERN SUBURBS BEFORE 7 PM...AND MOVE THROUGH MUCH OF

THE METRO AREA THROUGH 8 PM. AREAS OF LOCALLY HEAVY SNOW EMBEDDED IN

THIS BAND WILL DROP A QUICK HALF TO ONE INCH IN ISOLATED

AREAS...WITH AT LEAST A COATING TO HALF AN INCH OF SNOW ACCUMULATION

THIS EVENING. VISIBILITIES MAY BE REDUCED TO ONE MILE OR LESS UNDER
