Heavy band of a mixture of sleet and snow here in Western Lincoln County. Radar shows a gap, possibly more in about another 15 minutes or so.

Has it reached you yet? Wondering how heavy that band is.. Looks like its heading to me after.

850 temps are just barely at 0c or below.. by looking at this map. Pretty close to going over to sleet here.

Really coming down at I-40 and I-440 in Raleigh

Wow...doesn't take much to create traffic problems does it? I ran into numerous wrecks on the way home today...one truck completely flipped upside down.

We have about 1/2 inch here. I'm right on the line between Kernersville and Winston-Salem. It was mainly freezing rain for a few minutes and now it's all snow again. DH just went out and said roads are pretty slick.

I agree dan. Had some heavy ip and no some fr is setting in.....

Freezing drizzle and 26 degrees...that's your nightmare scenario, folks.

With the cold air progged to come down this is going to end up being one of the longest-lasting 4 inch snowstorms McDowell County has seen in a long while.

The last time I had a good solid snow with a little sleet it was back in Boone in 02. Had some great sledding that night. So, heading out to do some long driveway ice sledding :)

Just went for a walk outside. We've got around 1/8 inch of freezing rain over the last several hours on top of the 6 inches of snow. I have NEVER seen the roads this bad around here. It is a skating rink out there right now. I couldn't imagine anybody, regardless of vehicle, making it very far tonight without ending up stuck in a ditch.

Yeah we're still getting some freezing drizzle here and roads are awful. My friend said some of the main secondary roads were plowed earlier today, and that any plowed roads are smooth sheets of ice now. My street still has 3-4" of snow on it so it isn't completely impassable for now (though I tried and failed to make it up in a 2WD vehicle).

That heavy band of freezing rain and sleet is moving in. Been watching the same bush for the last couple of hours and it has a heavy coating and a nice lean to it now. Roads are nearly impassable in Northern Mecklenburg with the freezing rain on top. Will be worse by morning.

Yep everything has a nice glaze on it here in south CLT. About to go walk around and see how the streets are. Mine were snow covered...but enough cars went on it to clear it enough to be easily drivable.

Excerpt From the State paper in Columbia, SC

The National Weather Service indicate this will rank in the top 10 of January snowfalls in Columbia history and could end up in the top 20 overall snowfalls.

The 10 a.m. totals don’t indicate the official total at Columbia Metropolitan Airport, but readings in several areas near the airport are in the range of four inches. Some others in the Midlands are as high as six inches.

Columbia has had as much as four inches only six times in January, according to National Weather Service statistics kept since 1887. Heavy snowfalls are more common in February, but four-plus inches has fallen in a day only about 10 times in that month.

Columbia has had official snowfalls of 1.5 inches or more only 45 times in 124 years. Three of the 45 have been in the past 12 months.

See a couple of red taggers in here, what you guys think about temps tomorrow. They're going with the 32..but with a snow pack any of you think we will make it there?

Well ZR releases latent heat into the air so it can be self limiting unless there is CAA. The surface source of cold won't really be there tomorrow so it will start to be impacted then. More so my way but you may see 32 tomorrow.
