Seems like points east and west of RDU are in the 80's and 90% humidity range while RDU is stuck in the 40% range... Seems like we are pretty much screwed here. Oh well.. here hoping this wasn't our last chance this year..

Where's my cliff!!!? hehe :arrowhead:

Also, congrats to all who got some snow out of this!

wow having a nice burst of snow currently. Was getting some sleet/zr for a ittle bit now have kicked over to big flakes. Now that the sun is setting the roads are already recovered with a dusting of snow! Nice surprise. Too bad I just dusted off the car for tomorrow :arrowhead:

I just looked at my power company's outage map.. SCE&G, and not 1 customer is out in Lexington and less than 3000 the whole state. Pretty amazing stuff. So glad we got the snow instead of a ton of ice.

Just before I posted Lexington Co had 40 customer without power around the St. Andrews area...nice to see they are working hard to keep us warm

Fingers crossed it doesn't get worse overnight..lol

Light sleet and snow now. We've had some heavier bursts but never gotten sustained heavier snow today. Less than an inch of snow here. I know they are reporting more in town, but north of I40 the moisture really dried up.

Oh well - win some lose some. Still something which is more than a lot of winters and it is nice to see the reports from GA, SC and other parts of NC - they were due.

Here's what i found for GA.

http://test.crh.noaa.gov/ffc/?n=20110109winterstorm

Nothing yet from Raleigh/GSP

They should throw a little red at the end of that 8 inch contour and around NeGa's (poster) location. :guitar: Interesting map though. I would have thought the 8 inch amounts would be a little more widespread.

Just took a long walk and it was pretty amazing. Walking in the snow is more like walking across a frozen puddle. There is now so much ice on top that With each step, cracks spread out in all directions. Walked up to the road and it's a mess. You can see where 2 or 3 almost lost control and went into the ditch. The few vehicles that did travel on it did nothing more than create a sheet of slush that is already refreezing into a sheet of ice. The rest of the road has 5 or 6 inches of snow on it.

A little Surprised at the amount of ice accretion though. I would estimate it's about 0.15. Lots of crackling in the trees when the wind blows. And of course the entire time, there has been moderate to heavy freezing drizzle with some light sprinkles thrown in. One would think that wouldn't matter much but it's added up a fair bit and I wonder how much there will be if it continues all night.

Those returns over the upstate are some zr and a whole lotta ip...just so you know.

Enough ip that it's making quite a noise hitting the window panes.

Posted a bunch of pics in the picture thread and this

after being all over the hood i'm convinced it was more like 8"here for an average, several drifts over a foot around the house! The freezing rain hasn't stopped in 2or3 hours...its light but really evident on the power lines, signs, sides of the cars and gutters (1/4 inch ice sheet hanging):guitar:
