Wow that is awesome!!!! Still snowing hard here picking up what we lost but grass is still shinning through. Hopefully it will be covered before the change over and then it will pack it back down again. lol!!

It shows 12 more hours of freezing rain imby :weight_lift::lol: Things are looking real pretty now as the freezing rain continues....

interesting, eh? lol - i have lost all the sleet. i am now 100% light freezing rain. there is enough of an accretion to easily hear it in the trees (as well as see it).

The weenie in me is routing for this band to develop just because it would look magnificent with a couple tenths of ice on top of this snow; but now I'm becoming concerned that I might lose power tonight.

Generally, if a bear farts in the woods around here I lose power for a week...

lol

i havent lost power since the dec 05 ice storm (knock on wood). i dont know if the amounts would be enough to do a lot of damage, but with all the snow, etc. we already have it wont take a lot to really mess things up

Very light snow in downtown W-S right now. Unfortunately this light snow is the storm before the calm I am afraid.

Afraid? Are you crazy!! Bring it on!!!

Finally! Snowing sideways in K-Vegas. Where did that wind come from? Blowing HARD out of the east. Old Glory is pinned sideways on the front of the house! :weight_lift:

Nature of the snow event for most will continue to be snow showery versus a large stratiform snow like early in the day. GFS images from 4pm, 7pm to 11pm showcase this well as lifting mechanisms combined w/ depth of moisture will continue to produce on and off snow... occasionally some heavier 10 - 20 min bursts of heavier snow then backing off to mist or drizzle... most consistent axis as you can see is from a line of about CLT to RDU this evening. Images show not strong but weak to moderate lift w/ sufficient moisture to produce the occasional snow showers then bouts of freezing mist or drizzle.

Snow winds down after midnight and you're left w/ nasty freezing mist or freezing drizzle thru the night into some of Tuesday for light ice accretion on everything.

Triad should see a general 1 inch to close to 3 inches locally but wouldn't expect more than that range.

Tough to get good "efficient" accumulations w/ this type of set up now as lulls between pockets of snow slows accumulations some especially w/ compaction from freezing drizzle.

All of the light coating of ice that we got earlier in the day is gone, except for just a tiny bit in some of the trees. Up to about 38 now. The ice caused huge traffic problems here. All of the major bridges were closed (the Ravenel, Don Holt, Wando, and others). Ones not closed resembled ice rinks. As close in as St. George and Orangeburg, there is still mixing going on.

Everything, and I mean everything is cancelled or delayed. The aquarium and the Charleston Museum closed, some of the malls opened late, and all the schools in the area closed because of the snow.
