Made it home from our perhaps pointless trip to NE GA- where we were in Livonia was a small screw hole where both north and south 25 miles got about 9-10" and there was "only" 6"' there. To top it off we got about 4" here at home it looks like. The drive up was harrowing but exciting and I did get to see some moderate-heavy snow in daylight so it was not a complete waste. Snow chasing can be tricky sometimes.

As an aside, my original 4-6" forecast for the Metro was basically spot on, too bad I chickened out and lowered it to 2-5". At least I did not go all the way down to 1-3" like FFC did.

Congrats to Lookout, really glad to see that you finally got nailed- I have lived here 30 tears and have never seen ,more than 7" here in the city- did get 10" at work in Marietta during superstorm.

You could have chased right here! We're hovering at about 6" with continuing sleet really putting a nice crunchy coating on top of the snow and packing it down.

Uh-oh...first pings of sleet in Faynam.

So now we know for sure that the bright-banding is the change over. The cool thing is that it is progressing north faster than the front edge of the precip. By the time the precip gets here, if it gets here, the changeover will begin very shortly after that.

everyone doesnt hate ice. growing up here i am used to this kind of storm, and it doesnt bother me at all. i think a nice glaze on top of snow is kind of cool, and it helps keep it around longer lol. grante, taken in moderation - not .50"

i am sort of hoping the ruc and other models are right and give us another .20-.25" of freezing drizzle :drunk:

Totally agree..this has been my dream storm for years. I'm aware of the problems associated with it but I've always wanted to see a big snow followed by a little glaze..I always wondered how amazing that would look. Now I know

Thanks man, I really appreciate it. The feeling is mutual and your original call was great.

Sounds like you had a blast..Did you get to see that 9 or 10 inches on your way back?

Yea, i can never tell what is over in the avl area, which sux because that's usually where our precip come sfrom. BTW, congrats on the 10 inches! That's awesome!:snowman::thumbsup:

Thanks a lot brandon. I've sat here and saw you get nailed like this a few times..sitting here wondering what it was like to get that much and what it would look like. I won't lie, I was jealous lol..and after seeing it today, I was justified. Awesome sight.

I do appreciate the kind words from everyone. Best group of folks on this board and it's not even close.

Don't count on a solid changeover. Every single band here has started as sleet, then turned into heavy snow. We've had a "change over" at least six times.

Ended up with 6" here IMBY. Light to Mod freezing rain here now. Really glad we made out with more snow than I anticpated we would and hopefully even less ice accum. Also, does anyone see any other "potential" winter wx events in our near future? Very happy for all the folks that cashed in on some good snow.

There was no taking this storm away from N GA. Definitely a georgia special!

I had more here! thumbsupsmileyanim.gif Sorry... it does suck to go that far for nothing! We just happened to be in a good spot here, we had a great burst before midnight, it started at 9:35 last night and by midnight I had 5". It was REALLY coming down.

that relatively slow moving, very heavy band really helped those of us out from about i20 north. that gave a lot of us 1-2" per hour rates for several hours

it certainly was without a doubt. atl is basically shut down, as is most of the northern half of the state. this was a huge winter storm for n ga, and once the models narrowed down the path they did a decent job. i was just vary wary of whether we would really be that lucky and have it verify. i came close to about 10", with drifts around the trees, roofs, etc.

several drifts were 18-20" ! :guitar:

It's a mixture right now. Little snowflakes peppered with sleet. Wind seems to have picked up a bit as well.

Awesome.

I live about 30 miles ENE of Tryon :) And it is also coming down. Bout as good as the pre-dawn hours!!

Just spoke with a buddy of mine in Tryon, NC (on NC/SC border near int 26). He says it's really coming down now with about 7 to 8" on the ground. Congrats to all of you down south who are making out. Still waiting here in Winston-Salem.

At least our snow rule is still in effect. Whatever I get you get double. I thought for sure we would break that with this storm.

Boy, I am one of those still waiting. We got off to a good start but then stopped. Been in a lull since 9am or so.

Had 1/2 inch everywhere but now most of that is gone. I hope RUC and Nam are right for this afternoon and evening.

Radar still seems to keep most of the precip South and South East so far but I am still hopeful.

That's my hope too :snowman::). I wonder how Robert has done with this?

I live very close to him and we haven't fared too well. 3 1/2" last time I checked

That sucks. He put a lot of time and effort into this storm. You did as well. Was really hoping he and you would do better than that.

I've been out enjoyin the snow, taking pics and got the traditional Bo Snow biscuit. Yep, they're open. Driving is completely treacherous. I've got right at 5" as of 2 hours ago. I'll put pics on the pics thread if there is one. I loved this storm here, the snow last night was unbelievably hard for a couple hours and I never recall seeing roads go from black to covered like that, which made driving home scary at 4 am. Slept a couple hours. I'm glad GA and SC got hit hard, congratulations, you never know how long it may be until another. Hopefully soon.:snowman: Oh 27, and moderate snow at times.
