This is a GFS snowfall depth forecast from 7am today to 7am tomorrow... I'd shave about an inch or maybe 1.50" off the ranges you see for an idea of additional accumulations we'll see. ** Some of this snowfall was from 7am - 12pm BUT NOT all of it:)

Radar now setting up well to an earlier post I made about the nature of "on and off" pockets of light to occasional moderate snowfall for remainder of the day across western NC into upstate SC. Axis of best deep layer lift and moisture combined for remainder of today into tonight still from CLT up along or east of I-85 to Raleigh, Montgomery-Moore Counties. You see this in the model distribution of projected snow.

Thanks. :D I'll upload some more in a little while.

It really has been an amazing year for us hasn't it? 4 major snowstorms within one year and i know you had a decent icing event last year that most didn't get...not to mention all those little systems. Like last year, we had a system that dumped some moderate snow that changed to really heavy sleet here while it was snow just to the north. Due to a warm ground and above freezing temps (and it was daytime) it didn't really accumulate much..i think an inch. I think you got a couple of inches IIRC, didn't you?

"Officially" it would be around 30 inches of snow in the last year. But if you count the snow that melted and didn't accumulate or hurt accumulations due to it being in the daytime, etc...it's probably closer to 3 feet.

These two winters have been absolutely unreal. We might not see another string of storms like this in our lifetime lol. I truly am in awe at how great it's been for you, me, and the rest of our fellow georgians and south carolinians.

yes it has been! what, 3 8"+ storms, a couple of 3, 4" storms, 1 inch that lasted forever, the cold, christmas ...easily that much in the last two years. if you count the hours of heavy snow that actually fell and just didnt accumulate, you'd be well over the 30" range! and to think this was the winter that wasnt supposed to be, and its rivaling last years at this point

got right around 3 inches here with light snow. For those in the western piedmont/foothills. These bands over SC should start to become more north to south oriented as we go through the afternoon. The 16z ruc drops another .25 through most of the area. This is in response to the new s/w dropping into the Tennesse Valley and being on left front quad.

I hope so, Barely got a dusting on roof tops and just a few flurries now.

I remember when I first lurked the forum in '08 how livid you were about being in the "Lookout screw zone". Now you're at nearly double what I've got the past two years, lol! Getting some fairly heavy sleet now, actually the heaviest since I woke up :weight_lift:

Yeah, I couldn't get any significant snow to save my life. I went 13 years without a 4 inch snow. Your arrival might be about the time I got the worst screw ever. There was a storm a few years ago where it snowed all the way to the west side of athens and commerce and atlanta/gainesville got 2 to 4 inches iirc....while all I got was 34 degree heavy rain because of a pocket of warm air in the mid levels that couldn't go away because of the mountains creating an eddy. Not a single flake while it snowed for hours a few tens of miles away. I sure was absolutely livid because that was the worst screw i have ever gotten and it sort of capped off years of being screwed.

I don't know what has changed but I love it lol. I suppose I will have to go another 5 years or more before I can complain about it again lol.

I usually add a few inches to piss u off.

:lmao:

The world is out to get us.

We're almost at our average for the year. My folks in Lumberton are ecstatic about the amount of snow they have. Why not just relax? You're never happy anyway; you might as well let ILM, Lumberton, CAE, etc have their fun.

I'm never happy because it won't ever just ****ing snow. It's always mixed, or missing us to the north/south/east/west, or too light to accumulate or too warm to accumulate, or it comes in 10 minute bursts with an hour of downtime in between. It's always something and it ONLY seems to happen here.

Does the 16z RUC show the .25 impacting the northern NC Piedmont? 12z NAM and GFS showed over .25 for GSO and RDU between 7pm today and 7pm tomoRrow. Cloud deck is lowering in the triad the last hour.

The 'light returns' always over hky are actually much heavier than they appear due to radar beam elevation.

No, I just mean in general. You always manage to pick up inches and inches with light returns and we rarely get much of anything, even with heavier returns.

Moisture being pulled in from the Atlantic and that band to our south is looking nice. You live in the SOUTH. That's the way snow works here. Where are you from originally?

No, that's not the way snow works around here because it seems to work differently in Raleigh, Burlington, GSO, CLT, etc. Heck, even central GA has done better than Chapel Hill has done in 9 years.

sweet - some more precip is developing to my sw and headed this way lol

Despite little to no returns, The freezing drizzle has really picked up. A nice light glaze on everything now. Nothing major of course but it's caused a roughly half inch crust on top of the snow. Makes me wonder how long it will take to even be able to get anywhere or melt it in general but we are in uncharted territory here. With the next cold blast coming, the snow protected by a layer of ice, it really could be a while. Which will put me in a tough spot because I have some things I need to do by thursday.

The band from the south that's weakening and heading east, not north? That band? Yeah, looks good. Can't wait to watch Chatham county get 2" while I get zip.

 I remember those years leading up to your "worst screw storm ever". I'm glad to see you finally hit the jackpot lately  Light freezing rain is starting to add up here as the moisture continues to roll in.

Yea, i think most of GSO-RDU corridor precip comes this afternoon/evening. You guys will get a very nice glaze of ice tonight after some initial snow.
