Snow holding on a tad bit longer in Northern Lexington but it's slowly mixing with sleet. Should be a total changeover to freezing rain/drizzle by 11am right on que with RUC guidance. Thankfully most of the good precip is leaving the area now to not cause much more if even a 1/4 inch of ice. Over performance overall and the averages around here are anywhere between 4 inches in areas that didn't get in the super bands and 7" in the heart of the Midlands to "5-8" for Northern counties with it still coming down. GFS/GGEM/RGEM/JMA verified for the Midlands of SC. Right as I finished this, sleet is gone. All very heavy snow in Lexington.. again.

Precip shield is currently being obliterated across NE Tennessee. This area was never a primary player; however, this is still rather disappointing.

3" storm total so far, 6" on the ground. Currently seeing very light snow after moderate snow for the past hour. Returns to the south and west are dismal at best

ok guys, I'm going to make my first attempt at a beer run. Need some for the game tonight.. Wish me luck,

My dad made it to work in his AWD car. He said they plowed the main road he was on, but that it's now a sheet of ice thanks to the sleet/ZR and he's coming home soon before things get worse.

12z nam showing another 0.25 to 0.50 for northeast ga/upstate.

There has been a wreck right in front of my house..the second one in a week. The first was a woman who lost control and broke a telephone pole a few days ago. She was fine but she was a foot away from being killed. Nearly broke her tail end off the car.

A truck sled off the road a little bit ago and there is a wrecker trying to get another one out.

Dam! You are the new snow capital for our screw zone, we gonna have to remove you from the screw after these last 2 winters....and i'm glad for ya!

Off and on snow showers here...haven't measured lately but would guess 7.5"

starting to look worse now with getting close to .2" ice accretions. the outside smaller trees and brush are drooping now like weeping willows as continued moderate ZR continues with 30º.

Hopefully your area and into downtown Charleston doesn't suffer a .50"+ freezing rain event. That would be even more catastrophic for that area than a .75+ here in CAE.

I just read the FFC's new AFD and it said snow was confined to north of I-20 only. The heaviest snow was right in the northern half of the metro area. This is why downtown Atlanta received around 8-9 inches. They never expected a 3-4 inch/hr snow band to form right around here. Very sharp cutoffs it seems.

The problem with radar now is that the cloud deck is so low, especially for us, most of what falls is below the tilt of the beam and it's not picked up. Still have sleet and freezing rain off and on.

That's a great point that a lot of folks, including me need to take into account. I can see us getting at least another inch before mixing starts here.

There has got be something synoptically going on at the NC/SC line. All the green/dark blues on the radar just DIES when it gets to NC. It's moving NE, NE...bam, falls apart to light snow. :arrowhead:

That's because the precip is getting to far out ahead of the s/w swinging through..... I'm hopeful that as it moves from C. GA up 85 it will provide enough lift to pull some of the precip with it.

Have received 7.5" of new snow since about 1:30am last night. Total snow on the ground is roughly 9.5", approaching 10" as the snow continues to fall.

GSP just said that they are not lowering any of their snowfall totals just yet, as more moisture and lift (using 12Z NAM) approach the region again this afternoon from the southwest.

Enjoy!

Sounds like it played out about as I expected for the midlands of sc. I'm always happy when columbia gets snow because so many times they just miss it.

Sounds like a serious situation developing for you SF. Looks like you will at least double that. When was the last time charleston got a major icestorm?

Yeah, the band everyone received the most snow from was at it's heaviest right on Atlanta if you were to see a radar, it started weakening at it headed north of Atlanta. We had over 50 DBZ radar returns overhead.

Weather.com is estimating 8.2, but its a bit more then that.

Yep. as I type, more big flakes falling. I haven't measured in a while, but it looks quite impressive.
