dendrite
thoughts on the NAM? looks more NW out to 24 It's pretty amped thru 30, but it's tough to put any stock in what it does.
hooralph
SREF probabilities now give nearly a 50% chance of >12" over interior SE MA in a 12 hour period. How does that compare to prior big hits? What did 1/2005 look like? Like what's the most the SREF would ever spit out for >12". 99.9%?
HoarfrostHubb
Careful, That may be looked at by some as snowing into thurs........... 's allright... he's at a preschool or something going over NAM charts with 4 year olds. "And this is Mt. nutmegfriar
SREF probabilities now give nearly a 50% chance of >12" over interior SE MA in a 12 hour period. Approximately an inch per hour by my calculations.
40/70 Benchmark
Yup sucked. This year for us in NNE wasnt doing so well till this event. I'm at 8 inches for the year. It all evens out....that is what you have to keep reminding yourself of.....you had 2000-2001 where you were digging tunnels to the supermarket, then 2004-05 where you watched us spike the football......4' snow depths were common place in 2007 and 2008, then BWI had snowmaggedon and now we are going 2004-05 all over again. Don't worry, you'll be traveling to our funerals via snowmobile again in no time.

Mad River
BM= Bowel Movement WTF?? Moderators, can someone explain to this guy that the forum isn't for this sort of stuff? I don't post often as I don't want to get in the way of those who actually know their stuff. And I really appreciate all the contributions by the mets. But these silly posts like the one above are just childish.

Its very tough to see them get over 50% for >12" in 12 hours. Even in Jan '05 I don't think they did that until the very last second. The SREFs were different back then though....I know they were definitely worse, esp after 36h. If this storm were a bit slower, then we'd probably be talking about some pretty ridiculous amounts. DomNH
I hate busy days before snow events lol...just got to take a look at everything. Given the look of the NAM/SREF/Euro...I don't think it's a stretch to up my first forecast from 6-10'' to Ray's 8-14''.

I think its been pretty good...not all that many junk posts...but yeah, the fewer, the better.....the thread fills up as fast as it is and it doesn't need excess junk. Its to be expected we'll get one or two ranters out of the woodwork and a few weenies.

Euro almost made me jump when I saw the QPF maps...looks like a track between ACK and the BM but closer to ACK, AWT.
weathafella
much more fun getting the effect of what a blizzard condition looks like! what's your take on accums in Boston area? I took a glance at everything...seems like a solid 10-14" at least, no? I'd go 8-14 range so yes. If we get lucky we get some monster band to add inches more but not a forecast. Clinch Leatherwood
It's pretty amped thru 30, but it's tough to put any stock in what it does. I think it's way too early to say (i mean it's still 42+ away) that it's definitely going to go anywhere. I have zero trust in the models right now. Agreement be damned. Bended knee if the euro nailed the track from just west of the BM to just se of ACK, precip etc.
