... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 am EST

Tuesday...

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 am EST Tuesday.

* Locations... northeast Georgia and the upstate of South

Carolina.

* Hazards... heavy snow... with light accumulations of sleet and

freezing rain.

* Timing... heavy snow will continue through the morning

hours... with snowfall rates slowly diminishing during the

afternoon. The snowfall will slowly mix with... then change

to... sleet and freezing rain from the south this evening. Light

freezing rain and freezing drizzle should continue through much

of tonight.

* Accumulations... snow accumulations will range from 9 to 12

inches... with the highest amounts over the western upstate and

northeast Georgia. A few northeast Georgia Mountain locations

could see in excess of a foot of snow. Ice accumulations up to

one tenth of an inch are expected tonight.

* Impacts... roads will quickly become impassable... if they have

not already become so. Do not attempt to travel this morning.

Light ice accumulations on top of the heavy snow tonight will

likely create at least scattered power outages. The freezing

temperatures will continue to make travel nearly impossible.

* Temperatures... highs around 30. Lows in the mid 20s.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather

conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow

are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an

emergency. If you must travel... be sure to take along your cell

phone. Wear a warm coat... gloves... and boots. Keep a blanket...

flashlight... food... and water in your vehicle in case of an

emergency.

deteriorate across portions of the upstate of South

26.7 !!

so GSP thinks that we stay mostly snow until 2AM this morning now!!

I can take that

Today: Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 29. Northeast wind between 5 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Tonight: Snow before 2am, then freezing drizzle likely. Low around 26. North wind between 7 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Already have 2" on the ground....
