As noted by the minute by minute updates on the Atlanta Journal-Constitution website:

9:49 p.m.: Small groups of people are venturing out onto the snowy sidewalks in downtown Atlanta. In Walton Spring Park, outside the Westin at Andrew Young International Boulevard, a family was spotted making snow angels. They were joined by others and seen building a snowman.

9:45 p.m.: All lanes of the Downtown Connector southbound are closed at Abernathy Boulevard and University Avenue.

Can you tell we don't get snow all that often?

And another drink. Cheers everyone!

How quickly the conditions went down here has been pretty remarkable. Heavy snow with low visibilities and a lot of wind. A surprising amount of wind in fact. Just took a walk in the field and winds are probably gusting to 25 to 30mph out of the southeast. (no obstruction in the field for nearly a half mile) Obviously caused by this band but it's remarkable. Reminds me of the blizzard of 93 to be honest...although that happened in the daytime here.

Yeah this band has been absolutely incredible, this is probably the fastest I've seen snow accumulate in Georgia. Going out to measure again, looks like about 1.5".

You aren't going to like the space between these fingers when it gets there, but it looks like another solid finger is lifting up to me. That is a super cold wind blowing...the good cad wind I got in here a month or so back. 28 here and waiting until the space fills in. T

 It's about time! I hope you have your camera ready...lol Virga storm still currently overhead as I wait patiently...currently 33 deg here

Several hours of virga, as I may add. LOL It seems like we've had returns going on forever. My 8 year old son wanna stay up and briefly watch the snow, but sleep is creeping in on him. Bless his heart. LOL

Hopefully, things get underway here very shortly.

Watching the **** Show that is ATL traffic on the Weather Channel right now.

I know you guys bust on FFC often. its looking like a major nightmare on ATL interstates right now. Any of that to blame on the local NWS office? Or would it have been that way no matter what.

I mean its 10:30 Sunday night, so i cant imagine its casual traffic of any kind.

Wouldn't matter. ATL can't handle this.

No precip here on the south side for almost the last two hours. Only about a 1/4-1/2 inch of pellets/snow grains/sleet. Stuff is crusty frozen and roads are bad. Gotten pretty windy in the last hour too. Need to see more snow out of this, but i'm starting to wonder if we are just too much on the wrong side of things. NOT looking forward to ZR here.

Atlanta is a city of hills. No one takes that into account when they think they can drive in it. T

I think the snow moved in earlier than forecast, but they're fine on amounts. They did issue a special weather statement regarding the sleet moving in early.

I drove from Orlando to Chattanooga this afternoon. Just got in a few minutes ago. It was snowing when we drove through ATL, but it was above freezing and not sticking yet. Looks like we made it through just in time. I'm awaiting my thumping up here with a perfect temp of 28 degrees. On radar, it looks like this is gonna be a good one.
