I told you central nc peeps a couple days ago that this was going to suck for us. There was no way with a weakening system, dry air in place, and warming aloft that we really had much of a shot at more than an inch or so of snow, followed by some nuisance mix.

The radar is not looking good for our area: lots of holes, bright-banding just to the south, dry slot approaching, etc...

It seems to me that the warming aloft ALWAYS comes in quicker than forecast.

Also, it seems like nobody ever busts a snowfall forecast on the low side anymore. Growing up, they used to bust low a lot. Now, you can usually take an accum map and cut it in half.

You are being generous about cutting it in half. Can cut it in quarters for over here and still might bust.

Still not a flake.

Actually, the busts go both ways. We don't ever know what's going to happen here when it comes to snow. Just too much stuff has to come together for it to happen here.

Only goes one way for me.

So, you have never gotten more snow than forecasted? Were you not here in Jan 2000? Or for the ice storm in Dec 02? Yes, it does seem the forecasts bust more often on the low side, but there are plenty of times we have received more than forecasted. There really is no way of telling anything more with regards to winter weather here than the potential for snow or ice. The forecasts are wrong more often than right, and that goes for missing both low and high.

Starting with the February 26, 2004 storm, we have been seriously jinxed.

Nothing here in downtown Raleigh. I called my wife at home (SE Wake) and she said that it's finally started coming down lightly.

What's going to happen from here is that one band of snow will come through, lasting no more than 1.5 hrs, dropping a dusting to an inch. Then it'll sleet for a while, followed by patchy light freezing drizzle.

Then its going to warm the crap up for the rest of Jan. And don't get your hopes up for any event next weekend either.

I think we should just be happy with our Christmas snow and hope for a warm up at this rate.

Looks that way ...

I think you are being generous. This band is dying (like all the others) and it'll snow for maybe 30 minutes before it quickly rushes out/falls apart. Some areas might be lucky enough to get a dusting. Some of us will have to be (mal)content with flurries.

Would love to have Allan Huffman and Matthew East chime in on if there is any hope left for the Triangle to see anything of substance with this.

If there was any hope for it, they would be on here, excitedly talking about it. It's over Brick, sans a few token flakes.

By the way, there was way more things that could go wrong here, for this event, than could go right.

Just go look out the window for snowflakes with the same expression that Dr Marvin had in the movie "What About Bob?" when he was hoping for the rain to let up so he could send Bob home.

Dude, it snowed on Christmas. That was awesome, even if you didn't get much. You know, white Christmas and all that.

It tried to snow on Christmas day, but no accumulation whatsoever. By early the next morning, it finally started to stick. My foot became infected and I had a fever and couldn't sleep. I was miserable all night. I was alone, it was cold, I was sick, had no pain meds and to top it off, Chapel Hill still got screwed. Worst storm ever.
