I saw Bangor getting snow on radar and thought that ol' red was waking up to a fine day. lol

I might get a dusting to a fractional amount. Not as exciting as it is a couple hundred miles northeast.

Very sharp cutoff on this one. Looks like its still trying to push south. Watching the local news and they are reporting Princeton Maine already has 6.5 inches on the ground. Damn. If they don't mix, there should be some very impressive totals to the north. Should be a fun radar watching day.

Is snowing nicely out there right now... early morning eyeball out the window would suggest at least another 1" overnight in town.

I'm interested to see what I find out up the road at the ski area in a few minutes.

I should edit to say it was a lot closer to 2" than 1" when I went out to clear my car off... fluffy goose down sort of stuff. Looks like there's now over 4" on the ground in the village and 5" or more cumulative snowfall from this event so far.

Up at the base of the mountain (1,550ft), there's actually been less snow than in the village the past two mornings. An even 1" fell last night here at 1,550ft and grooming is reporting 3" at 3,600ft. I have no idea why there is more snow on the ground in the village than 800ft higher at the base of the ski hill.

We continue to nickle and dime our way to a "snowpack" haha. Snowing nicely out there right now.

Event totals: 5.3” Snow/0.19” L.E.

Monday 12/6/2010 6:00 A.M. update: There hadn’t been too much going on since my last update yesterday morning; there was occasionally some snow falling, but nothing that was really accumulating in our area. I happened to look outside around 11:00 P.M. yesterday evening and noticed that we had some huge flakes coming down, with some diameters of an inch or more. It really seemed like the upslope machine had turned on, and when I checked out the radar at the time (image below), it seemed that the echoes had recently nosed their way up the Winooski Valley into our area. By midnight there was 1.4 inches of new snow on the snowboard, and this morning there was an additional 2.0 inches. With 3.4 inches falling in the course of 7 hours or so, this has probably been the most intense snowfall we’ve seen with this event, although since it’s incredibly dry, upslope snow, the actual amount of liquid falling from the sky hasn’t been huge.

When I left the house at around 6:00 A.M. this morning, light to borderline moderate snow was falling, and the situation was similar in the Richmond area. Both the snowfall and snowpack seemed to taper off in the Williston area, and it was simply bare ground in the South Burlington area. Here on the UVM campus, there are just some scattered dustings of snow around with flurries in the air, but there is that ominous wall of white off to the east.

Our current NWS point and click calls for 4 to 10 inches through tomorrow, broken down as 1 to 3 today, 2 to 4 tonight, and 1 to 3 tomorrow. Unlike the way the snow fell over the weekend, often in the form of tiny grains, those forecast numbers would be much easier to realize with the density of snow that is falling. 6:00 A.M. Waterbury details are below:

New Snow: 3.4 inches

New Liquid: 0.05 inches

Snow/Water Ratio: 68.0

Snow Density: 1.5%

Temperature: 22.5 F

Sky: Light/Moderate Snow (0.5” flakes)

Snow at the stake: 4 inches

Nice, J.Spin! I knew it was only a matter of time before you caught up to us. In Stowe village I bet our numbers are just about identical with totals of ~5.5" and just over 4" on the ground. I bet you start to clean up in the next 24 hours.

Upslope machine going at full blast right now here at the ski resort... just dumping huge, fat, fluffy flakes. Visibility is probably close to 1/4 mile in the base area. Huge flakes. Going to need to update the snowfall this morning.

Mostly cloudy 22.8F light snow flurries. We have picked up 1/4-1/2" this morning. Just got back from Bristol 6 miles to my south and no snow on the ground there. Just spoke to a friend in Rumney 10-12 miles to my north and he says "everything is covered" with an inch or two. Downsloping at work amazing to see the differences within 20 miles here in the NW Lakes Region.

and down here just south of you (Webster/Salisbury) at 700 ft we have had stray flakes. That stuf just so wants to rotate in but it won't. Jan 2010 flashbacks

Classic upslope snow radar... guess where the Green Mountain spine is? The radar isn't doing the snow justice here on the eastern side as the beam is likely blocked by the mountains, but the heaviest stuff is falling on the western slope communities. Web cams from Underhill, Jeffersonville, Essex, Bolton/Richmond, etc show some good snow right now.

I just noticed that winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories have been posted for our area. BTV says that accumulations have been building up fast enough to require the issuance:

AS OF 1044 AM EST MONDAY...HAVE UPDATED ALL ZONES TO ADD IN WINTER WX ADV/WARN. SNOWFALL AMTS ALREADY RECEIVED ARE PROMPTING ISSUANCE AS WNW FLOW WILL PERSIST OVER THE AREA...AFFECTING NW FACING UPSLOPE AREAS. THESE SPOTS COULD RECEIVE AN ADDITIONAL 5-10 INCHES BFR TAPERING OFF TOMORROW. REST OF CWA WILL SEE MUCH LESS ACCUM...W/ PORTIONS OF SC VT SEEING ONLY NEAR AN INCH.

06DEC10A.jpg

06DEC10B.jpg

Our point and click has been upped a bit to 5 to 11 inches, and for the Bolton area it’s gone to 6-12 inches.

Probably west wind downsloping too.

Definitely. I think it was just too damn dry earlier on when I had what appeared to be heavier echos overhead. Taking a peek at some skew's shows IZG moistening up aloft as the day wears on. Finding this to be correct now as more flakes fill the air at this point with lighter echos overhead. Definitely finally falling at a pace that will lead to light accums. Unfortunately, practice outside has been moved to the gym. Its fairly nasty cold outsider with G25 sustained estimated 15 at about 28F and snow.

You are in the same posistion as me and are getting downsloped, Anytime there is winds out of the NW it is bad news here for snow.........
