the aipport was overe a band that stalled right over them....but the totals in the METARs don't add up.....

Yeah something isn't right. This observer has 8" in one hour in the snincr remark. Also the totals don't add up right.

Uhh he is probably doing a big no-no. Especially since .15 into 8 inches is a 53 to 1 ratio and .06 into 6 inches is 100 to 1 ratio :lmao:

It's settling fast. But seriously, if we throw out the hourly numbers in those METARs and go by snow depth...it's 6" in one hour and 4" in one hour. Stupid impressive if legit.

BTW, SBN rocking again at last ob.

Haha, got to love the 100 to 1 ratios. Seriously though, it is some heavy stuff. Hopefully we can see some webcams/pics of the carnage.

I am down. I have never been in a lake effect band. I got a bunch of Buffalo, NY friends who go lake effect snow storm chasing. I may have to tag along some day.

You know one day I should just drive up to Port Huron or Port Austin when a good Lake Huron band hits. Would be nice to experience.

9 inches of snow total from numerous measurements in my backyard. As I posted in the LES thread only 4.9 from Millersburg in se Elkhart county so there is a dramatic snowfall gradient increase as one heads nw to the South Bend area. The airport is on the far nw side of the city and although some of those rates may be suspect the huge totals stand for themselves and more is on the way. I presently have clear skies here to my north as the band seems to be shifting westward.

A winter weather emergency has been declared by the mayor of South Bend warning people to stay home through 8 am Sunday. The last time this was done was 12 years ago. So you can see how rough it is in that general area. Two feet of snow has already fallen in the city and up to 3 feet is expected when all is said and done. Snow has started once again here at Elkhart after having relatively clear skies for several hours earlier this morning.
