Most of the on-air meteorologists for the NYC metro area are still forecasting only 6-12" for the city despite the more bullish and recent runs of the NAM, ARW, NMM, GGEM, RGEM, SREFs, JMA, Euro, Euro Ensembles, RUC, ETA and MM5. :axe:

I think that it would be significantly more prudent to forecast 12-18" from NYC to LI based on the recent best consistency and consensus of the more bullish models; thus, I sense that there is a good chance most of those on-air meteorologists will bust on the low side unless they upgrade their forecast amounts.

I dont know-- 12 - 18 inches might be a bit much if you take into account the GFS. I saw CBS and FOX doing something more prudent last night (CBS - 9-13 inches / FOX - 8-14 inches) and both had up to 18 inches over Central Long Island with less over the eastern part (mixing), Jersey shore (mixing) and western areas (fringing), but another snowfall max over the Lower Hudson Valley and CT.

To be fair,

JMA is closer to GFS. .75"-1" for the city

Also,

Euro ensemble mean has the same as GFS also, .75"-1",

according to a friend with access.

Geez, so glad this board is available to replace painful viewing of television news and weather. I can't believe how bad broadcast news is - just tuned to channel 11 in NYC and saw one of those interviews with a charlatan shilling his "wealth can be willed" set of for-pay how-to instructions to become "super-rich." (Later on his branded debit card ad cut the weather report off, lol). I'm just not turning on the set again for weather, ever.
