This is something some central states POSSIBLY experienced this morning, pretty freakin awesome. Saw this looking through the central thread.

Oh man, that is so cool. Apparently people have even reported flashing lights with them as electrical charges are released from the rocks being compressed. Sick!

in reality it comes down to winterwarlock is one of the worse posters on the board...and his forcasting abilitys blow. He called the january cold snap run of the mill before it happen(which it was not). Ray explain to him why his temp was diff from the smq reporting site....and he still runs around not understanding it. He often questions mt hollys snowmaps....which have been spot on for the last 2 winters....yet he often finds one model showing less snow to argue his case for his backyard.

Another vent, if we could only reach the no. 2 spot by receiving just another 2.4," I think I'll be able to write off the rest of this winter, otherwise, a sense of frustration will linger in that we came this far but still couldn't manage to obtain some sort of record out of it.

But sometimes you need to abaisser vos attentes (lower your expectations), when confronted with the grim realty of a situation.

I think the first place position of 1995-96 is meaningless anyway since there probably were several winters in the 1800s which exceeded it.

just got home from 3 days in Lake George ... wish some of you fellow snow lovers could have enjoyed it as well. Got right around of foot of snow Friday...daytime moderate-heavy snow accumulating on all surfaces with temps in the upper 20's. No sun angle nonsense up there. Went dog sledding on frozen Lake George this morning in over 12" of fresh powdery snow over 28" of lake ice and a temp around 20 degrees. Winter heaven is just 4.5 hrs away. Made me sick driving back home and hitting the bronx and seeing 44 degrees on the car thermo and no snow on the ground.

Another example of differences in forecasts between adjacent NWS offices for effectively the same area:

Upton:

NYZ081-270930-

SOUTHEASTERN SUFFOLK-

336 PM EST SAT FEB 26 2011

.TONIGHT...CLOUDY. RAIN LIKELY...MAINLY AFTER MIDNIGHT. LOWS IN THE

LOWER 30S. SOUTH WINDS AROUND 5 MPH. CHANCE OF RAIN 60 PERCENT.

.SUNDAY...CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF RAIN IN THE MORNING...THEN

PARTLY SUNNY IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGHS IN THE LOWER 40S. WEST WINDS

5 TO 10 MPH...BECOMING NORTH IN THE AFTERNOON. CHANCE OF RAIN

20 PERCENT.

Taunton:

RIZ008-270915-

BLOCK ISLAND RI-

INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...BLOCK ISLAND

349 PM EST SAT FEB 26 2011

.TONIGHT...CLOUDY. SNOW LIKELY...MAINLY AFTER MIDNIGHT. LOWS IN

THE LOWER 30S. SOUTHWEST WINDS 5 TO 10 MPH...BECOMING SOUTHEAST

AFTER MIDNIGHT. CHANCE OF SNOW 60 PERCENT.

.SUNDAY...MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF SNOW AND RAIN IN THE

MORNING...THEN PARTLY SUNNY IN THE AFTERNOON. NEAR STEADY

TEMPERATURE IN THE MID 30S. WEST WINDS 5 TO 10 MPH. CHANCE OF

PRECIPITATION 50 PERCENT.

Upton's AFD:

...LOOKS LIKE A MIXED BAG OF RAIN/SNOW TONIGHT...MAINLY INTERIOR...AS

BOUNDARY LAYER REMAINS WARM OR WARM ENOUGH TO ENSURE SOME LIQUID.

ANY HIGHER ELEVATIONS ACROSS THE INTERIOR CT COULD SEE SOME MINOR

SNOW ACCUMS OF UP TO AN INCH...

and Taunton's:

...TEMPERATURES AND PARTIAL THICKNESSES AT ALL LEVELS WILL DEFINITELY BE COLD ENOUGH

FOR SNOW OVERNIGHT. THE SNOW MAY TAKE A WHILE TO BATTLE THE DRY

AIR AT LOW LEVELS...BUT IT SHOULD BEGIN TO REACH THE GROUND IN

WESTERN AREAS BETWEEN 9 PM AND 11 PM AND IN EASTERN AREAS AROUND

OR SHORTLY AFTER MIDNIGHT. SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS ARE FORECAST TO

RANGE FROM 3 TO 5 INCHES IN CHESHIRE AND HILLSBOROUGH COUNTIES IN

SOUTHERN NH...TO 2 TO 4 INCHES IN NORTHERN MA FROM ABOUT THE MASS

PIKE NORTHWARD TO THE VT/NH BORDERS...AND ONLY AN INCH OR TWO IN

CT...RI...AND SOUTHEAST MA...

Will the thickness line lie between Montauk and Block Island, separated only by 30 miles of water longitudinally? Lol.

His last two post...i rest my case

why the hate here out of the blue? Is it because you like to tell me how to run a landscaping business. I have been in the business for over 20 years successfully yet you try to tell me that I do not have the proper schedule for trimming shrubs. Please that was the best one Ive heard yet.

and as far as the Steve D comment I put in there, what is trolling about it. Some poster posted a link to tristate (why I have no idea). That post was totally shredded as inaccurate by Steve D. So where is the trolling there? Its more to inform the other guy that the post he put up is wishcasting nonsense which was refuted by Steve D as such. Because it didnt favor snow why is that a bad thing?

SMQ should be labelling something else. Huge difference between Bedminster and Somerville. I mean they might as well go to Morris County for that reading.

Mt Holly snow maps? They have generally been on target but if you are referring to when I called them out last storm for 3-5 inch totals when we got one inch here. Yea well you be the judge.

Please dont try to throw things up here trying to make me look like a troll because you dont like that I like heat. The same nonsense goes on in reverse in the summer. Anytime I post in heat threads I am attacked and called names who is the troll then. Its a weather board. I like weather but not necessarily snow and I LOVE heat but for some reason its okay to rain on the heat lovers parade.

I miss this storm :(

It's a shame that the area might not break the snowfall record.I had 60 inches of snow by Feb 1st. Since then, I had 3 inches. Who would have thought that the area would be struggling to break the record. I really thought there was a good chance of passing the record. Stupid La Nina.

Hey, at least a lot of us had 2 HECS this season. That is really rare in a strong la nina. :snowman:
