JCT777
I would take 7 months of winter and 5 months of spring. I wish summer was eliminated. I know this has gone OT...but I'd be fine with 5 months of winter, 4 months of May and 3 months of late September. Basically, 7 months of high temps in the 70's to near 80 - which is quite pleasant but not hot. Anywho...let's see what happens on Saturday with another winter storm threat and then how cold it gets later next week.

gravitylover
What a bust... my back is killing me 4.5" accumulated total but 7" fell. Mix a bit of sleet in and the good stuff compacts pretty quickly. Temp never got above 20.2* and now it's dropping. Knocked the driveway snowbanks back and down so that now they're only 5' tall. Anybody that wants to see what this storm is all about I've got beer and extra shovels. I'll make my way to the metro north station to pick you up
LVblizzard
I hope the CFS is right about March. Warm springs are the best, besides for allergies.

This stuff is pretty dreary, and it's near impossible to get in exercise get up before noon during the winter.
Yes_Probably_Maybe_No
Rain tomorrow...most likely rain with perhaps a little snow for the 5-6 threat. No need to get teased with 34 degrees and rain...+NAO/-PNA showing up in the medium range and hopefully we just torch from here on out. Rather be in the 50s-60s at this point. Guest Pamela
January Departures From Normal (Temp): NYC Central Park: -2.4 Islip: -3.8 Tha January 2011 mean at Islip (27.1 F) is still a full 5.0 degrees warmer than the January 1977 mean at Central Park (22.1 F). Greatest January for snow in this area...without a doubt....temp wise it was nice and cold, but not record setting. Still, except for *maybe* February 1934...you can make the case that we just lived through the greatest winter month in this area in the last 100 years when taking both snow and cold into account. And the period from Dec 26 through Jan 27 might be the snowiest stretch of 32 days in NYC history.

Violentweatherfan
I cant believe how envious I am of what the Midwest is experiencing now, especially with the winter SEPA is having. Would anyone be willing to give up 12/26 and 1/26 for what Chicago is going through? IMBY I had 12" and about 16/17" from 1/26. I certainly would. ict1523
Off topic, but Midway's last hourly report was: Thunderstorm Heavy Snow Small Hail/Snow Pellets Blowing Snow Freezing Fog and Windy with NE winds at 30 G56. Pretty insane. Wanna be there!

Echo
I think I'm ready for spring. This stuff is pretty dreary, and it's near impossible to get in exercise get up before noon during the winter. I am. All we've gotten here is crappy little snows. The one big one was a fail too, my area only getting 6 inches of compacted slop and still had to go to work. State offices close, but the new County Executive kept office open. I also HATE ICE and if we're going to get more of these snow/rain/freezing rain storms or the good stuff is going to go around us, I'm done with it. gravitylover
Curious as to where my flooding is.... Well, if I ever melt out up here the Bronx is going three feet under Im hoping for a string of days and nights over 80* so this stuff melts before the ground thaws. I know that this is the worst case scenario for those downhill/downstream but better you guys flood than me
dbc
Curious as to where my flooding is.... Lol, as am I. Maybe tmagan or the other flood nuts that were out in full force this event can explain to me how my 37 degree high temperature and rapidly dropping from there with no precip falling is going to render a flooded mess and a disastrous loss to my 20 inch snowpack now encased in ice. I'd wait for an answer but that would probably be frivolous on my part.

Now there is a thick crust of ice ontop of the snowpack, which makes it very thick and if we get more snow, it will be a glacier, seriously. No doubt and I am not giving up on the Saturday event just yet either. I'd love a nice 3 or 4 inches to freshen things up a bit for Super Bowl Sunday. Some mood snow, lol. FPizz
I wonder what the total precip was for CNJ with this storm. It didn't really seem like much overall for both parts. maybe 3/4"? I'd like to see that. i guess maybe Rutgers would ave that information since it is right in my backyard.
dbc
By the way I would just like to add this is a great thread to have and I plan on showing more discipline and posting some things in this thread that I probably shouldn't in others. Good job with this thread Mods, it is much appreciated. I hope to see this thread stick around for the rest of the winter at the very least. dbc
Our snowpack took a beating down here. Admittedly further south probably took a significant hit. I imagine though the snowpack down there was not as daunting as it was and still is up here. If I am wrong I apologize ahead of time.
