dryslotted
no offense to dt, but his snow maps don't coincide with each other. In the mid atl one he has phl clearly in 6-12 Not to worry because if there is another shift in the models tonight he will issue a 'FINAL TWEAK' map lol. How did his maps do last year? I can't recall...

sferic
I'm just wondering if western Long Island has a chance THIS TIME to get under a deformation "BAND" this time Not getting greedy 8-10 inches would be ideal..anything in excess of 10 inches here would be phenomenal. I just hope there's not a lakes cutter with 50's and rain the middle part of next week.

Manny
NYC has a chance to break 50 by the end of January. 6-10" for tomorrow/thursday, and maybe a 1-3" from the clipper. The possibility exists. Oh man..

NorthShoreWx
The temperature is down to 23 here as of 9:30. I like that we've cooled off, but there's also a good lesson for you radiation freaks in this. It is also 23 at the Brookhaven Lab (where the OKX office is) at a height of 2 meters, which is the prescribed height for measuring surface temperatures. They have a tower there with temperature sensors at a height of 10 meters (a little over 30 feet above the ground) and 88 meters (about 300 feet). The temperature at 10 meters is 26...in other words its the difference between the street level and outside the third floor of a building being 3 degrees. At 88 meters, the temperature is a balmy 32. Some nights the inversion is even steeper than that. It doesn't take a lot of wind to mix it up and bring the surface to 32 almost instantaneously. I find that on good radiational cooling nights (in the burbs) the 88 meter temperature at BNL is very close to the ground (2 meter) temperature in Central Park. Here is a snapshot of the BNL temps from 21:33 local time (9:33PM):

NorthShoreWx
Playing with the BNL tower graphs, its very interesting to look at the comparative wind profiles between 10 meters and 88 meters. You can see how the winds match up nicely during daytime, but decouple during a nightime inversion:

I figured there was an inversion out there because when I stepped out I immediately smelled someone's fireplace going. Damn, dirty smelly fireplaces.
