I'm not an anti-weenie... I just hate digging out of this stuff... that's all. Sorry if I offended anyone.

I wish we would get a storm worth digging. Our biggest snow this year has been a little over 4 inches. All the rest have been s**t storms, especially bad were some of the 1 - 2 inchers that turned to ice on the roads and I HATE ice storms.

I grew up in Manhasset and married a wonderful woman from Atlantic Beach. I am fully aware of the spread in elevation that exists across the island. I was just having a little fun, although, we could take "weenie" to a whole new level if we start issuing different snow totals for the island based on elevation and upsloping potential.

True, but even on LI it is reasonable to think there can be non-trivial differences at times between sea level and elevations of 300 - 400 feet a few miles inland.

There are certain winters i used to hear about...that's all I'm going to say.

As my neighbors will probably attest, the northshore of central LI is having a good run at the moment. After 2 days of rain, there is still about 10" of snowpack left and we are on the cusp of freshening it up with possibly 6 more inches. These photos are from this afternoon. I placed the snow stakes after the December storm. There was almost 20" on the ground after the 1/12 storm, so we have lost about half of that since.

Looks absolutely nothing like that here at all, mostly we're down to piles and occasionally snow cover in shadier spots. The rain and 45F temps the other day annihilated the snowpack. My back yard which had a ton of snow drift into it on 12/26 is still a glacier.

Up to 6 inches late tonight though sounds pretty sweet.

You can have it, dude. I have no problem with you guys getting a huge snowstorm that screws us alla Snowmageddon of last year.

You got screwed by living on a barrier island therefore getting easily flooded by the warmer air. I got rained on for hours on Tuesday and still have a solid 4 or 5 inches of snow on the ground. Well, it's not snow but cement. Even in open fields where the sun hits it directly they are solidly snowcovered.

If there is a worse place on LI for snow than Long Beach, I can't imagine where it would be. Maybe Fire Island, maybe not. But they probably make up for it with the summer sea breezes.

You guys are doing great this year. Thanks for answering. Happen to have an estimate on total days with snow on the ground?

Continuous snow cover since 12/26 here. There were patches left from before Christmas on western LI at the time that the 12/26 blizzard hit, but I think that was from a very localized snowfall of up to 3 or 4" in parts of Nassau around the 14th of December. I'm not sure if the snowcover goes back any further than the 26th for Westchester...the locals will have to answer.

Unbelievable, especially with more snow and near zero temps in the forecast. Amazing what a difference a couple hundred miles makes. In DC we have had total probably 2 days with an inch of cover.

Huh... there was zero snow cover here before 12/26, lol.... we've had constant snowcover since (if only on grass).

Absolutely right. The disadvantage of my location is a lot of times in marginal conditions Long Beach gets a sea breeze while I dont. Well-- I like that but that's for another time lol. When NYC hit 92 in early April last year, JFK hit 89 and Long Beach was in the upper 60s. Im a scant 2 miles from Long Beach and I was at 86!

We also get the rare storm when its mixing there but still all snow here.

Definitely would check out Fahnstock, especially if we get another 3-6 inches tonight... It will be a good snowpack for sure.

I'll probably ski at Caleb Smith on Saturday (State park in Smithtown).

The skiing was very good this past Saturday and Sunday. Deep powder over a solid base is not a common thing on LI:

There were patches left in my parents neighborhood in Nassau County (ne part) on Christmas Day. I wouldn't call it snowcover, but I definitely noticed it (especially since we had none left at that time in the shadiest of recesses at home).

Unfortunately, you are in the 2nd worse place on the island for snow.
