Sampson
Does anyone know if NZucker lives north of NYC at a much higher elevation? It's been like 5 minutes since he mentioned it....again, and I'm starting to think he may have moved.

Sorry, I was just saying that the SE winds would be a bigger problem for LI and NYC than the burbs, although not horrifyingly so given the lower SSTs than usual. Having a cold winter helps in more ways than one..I think the key to this storm is keeping the 850mb and 700mb low to the east of us, and then we'll probably stay all snow. mattinpa
In regards to next week's storm, the Euro is often too warm in the long range - though the NoGaps being so west means we can't discount it. I am glad the GGEM came more in line with the GFS.

Big Jims Videos
So once again not even a WWA for any counties in the NWS bing. coverage area, yet to my west, east, south, there's a wwa. I don't know what the criteria is in Luzerne County but 2-4 predicted and not even a HWO or anything.

I don't know what the criteria is in Luzerne County but 2-4 predicted and not even a HWO or anything. It looks odd on the maps with no headlines up for that area of northeastern PA. The criteria though for an advisory for that area is 4 inches where west, south and east it is 3 inches. There is an HWO out for the area, it is just not highlighted on the web at the moment. winterwarlock
so for the past two weeks I keep seeing people gasp and mouths drop open when they read the models and say its going be colder than its ever been blah blah blah so two weeks later and it seems like the refrain is the cold is coming after...the cold is coming after...well where the heck is it. I realize that this weekend will have a cold shot Saturday and Sunday but thats hardly out of the ordinary to have highs in the 20s. From reading the threads the last couple of weeks I was preparing for ridiculous cold with highs in the low to mid teens which we have seen in some years past..perhaps 2007 I think. So why does everyone have to be so dramatic when they see cold on the map if most likely it never comes to fruition in its intensity

tcutter
i thought this was relevant here..............Rob G just posted this as part of his new blog on his website.............. "The radar below is starting to play a very different story from what the models are indicating. You know I saw this back in Feb 2004 and the timing was undercut by hours. Now this system is playing the OVERUNNING GAME at this hour and you need to see how this may all play out later today, tonight and tomorrow." Sampson
Yep, and there are places in both Nassau and Suffolk county that are 300 ft or higher in elevation. I grew up in Manhasset and married a wonderful woman from Atlantic Beach. I am fully aware of the spread in elevation that exists across the island. I was just having a little fun, although, we could take "weenie" to a whole new level if we start issuing different snow totals for the island based on elevation and upsloping potential. NEXtreme
Gee I didn't know my post would be deleted for saying that snow fall totals would increase based on the radar and lifting going on in Ohio! My bad.....

Haha, Im sure there are cases where this has happened. I remember reading some stuff on Ed's site about how some marginal storms can vary greatly in terms of how much snow they put down across the island. I even remember a couple of years ago someone talking about how he saw it snowing from his bedroom window (with snow clinging to the tree tops) and when he went downstairs it was raining at ground level!
