Remember that year and that April well... we had 125" in the elevations of SW Ct. that winter.

One of the things about that winter that was so awesome, aside from the abundance of snow, was the amazing distribution. We had a four inch plus snow in November and two six inch plus storms in April. Then wall-to-wall snow in between (despite a few big thaws). I'm pretty sure the blizzard of 96 wasn't even our biggest storm in Bridgewater.

Band looks to be weakening a tad .....still moderate to heavy snow (w/ratios) in tolland county ...esp. southern part but heaviest stuff is staying over SE connecticut the 30-35 dbz stuff.

i'm crossing my fingers for ginx so that he can get pummelled within the hour......ginx are you in southern part of town?

Did I live there? No Ekster used to and his folks still do. I'm from Jersey

NORLUNS that tap into nice Atlantic inflow will have the best chance of serious dumpage. It makes sense, when you have a very moist low level airmass and cold air aloft, aided by serious low level convergence.

Congrats! It was pretty wild here too, though we didn't get nearly the snow that you did!

What were your rates during the heaviest interval? I measured 1.4" at 1:15 and 5.2" at 2:40, equating to almost 2.7"/hr.

I had 7.5" at about 6pm and 13" at about 8pm, so I was pushing close to 3" / hr. I was down in Danbury for the times you were referring to and it was absolutely ripping there, too.

Yes sir, you remember well... I probably could list every single snow event from that unbelievable winter... we had that 4" storm on 11/29 (remember because it is my dad's birthday and we got 4" on the dot in Ridgefield and I got up at 5 a.m. for it, despite school being cancelled - I was 15 years old that winter and a sophomore in HS) and then at least 10 more 4+" events. There were, however, some rather significant thaws that year ... after the '96 Blizzard and several during late February. The winter recharged several times, adding to the mystique.

I can't say, however, that the blizzard of '96 wasn't the biggest storm of that season. What made it truly epic was that we had a widespread 14-18" snowcover so that when the 2 feet fell, we had at least 40" on the ground... the depth of the snow after that storm was something that I will never forget.
