amazing how totals differ is sw ct.

the first band sat over greenwich this morning while we had nothing, hearing reports of up to 5 inches, 4 in New Canaan, and just spoke to my sister in Wilton she has 4". I have less than one, but just to my north has 1-3 and to my east where an excellent band came ashore from stratford east to branford.

Certainly mesoscale and elevation helped a lot as well.

Crazy stuff

Yeah some spots in western CT will get 6 or 7. Greenwich is a good example of some place that got hit hard by banding and gt 5" or so.

In general it's a 2-4 kind of event.

With moist onshore flow and a little lift..I won't be at all surprised if it never fully stops snowing..even if it's just dustings during the day tomorrow

Maybe a dusting in the hills but most places see winds turn NW and dry out. Sun should be out for at leasta time tomorrow. None of this "snow lightly all day" crap you put out.

taking a look at the wv...I think there will be an adjustment slightly west with the vort in Minnesota...the mid and upper level drying apparent in the WV suggests the vort is further west than the 6 hour forecasts of the 12z nam and the 12z gfs.

much appreciated analysis.

any adjustments with the inv. trough swinging thru .....with timing.strength.qpf that sticks out?

This is impressive from an ASOS.

METAR KDXR 071853Z 06005KT M1/4SM +SN FZFG VV002 M03/M03 A2938 RMK AO2 SLP952 P0010 T10281033

2 hours of < 1/4SM vis and 0.23" in the can. Probably 4-6" in 2hrs with the ratios.

Jerry, scott.. RE the OES. Im up the island looking east. Very dark clouds with black right down to the oceans surface threatening to move in. Still looks like 25 miles away. W/o looking at radar looks like judging by the sky theres snow falling on the north shore. Sun is out here with scrappy cumu and milky cirrus.

NAM holding back some of the energy this time - started right at 0h and that's well supported by the WV/RUC etc. What we see is a little less vorticity at the coast a few hours earlier 18h than prior runs with more behind it. Kicker or does that buy us time to get it up the coast more? It looks to me like it's not going to sneak the energy around as fast...

hmm there at 2400' and they are a snow magnet usually 24 with the boxing day event.

Yeah, maybe it's been breaking up a bit as it moves north. My friend Tom is generally pretty accurate with his snow reports. He was up in the N side of the park near RT 2. He said there were bursts of moderate but they would only last a few minutes.
