Talk about confidence for a day 5 event-

Tuesday: A chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 33. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Tuesday Night: A chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 26. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Wednesday: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 33. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

I have never seen such high POP's for an event so far out.

i was noticing that lately on the nam, it has a second batch of moisture coming through the region. any other models agreeing with this?

I am wondering the same thing. That PV at 42 slides just south of the M/D line and I'm wondering if we may see some more precip Sat afternoon along southern Pa with it?

Thoughts.

Do you think it enhances precip in southern pa Sat. Pm

Tombo/Hurricane....what are your thoughts. It has been consistanty showing up in the last few runs.

definitely a possiblity, but the vorticity and pv positioning have to be modelled exactly correct. its another shaky situation, just keep watching it.

Are the threads going to stay separated? I think we should keep it all in one NY/NJ/PA thread until 24 hours out, then split it, since the mesoscale features that differentiate NY from PHL don't show up until that close in anyway.

I just wish the NY crowd would stop saying "5 inches across the area" when they really only mean NYC

I agree on this point!

I like this idea. Usually, if it's going to snow in NYC from 3-5 days out, it's going to snow in Philly too. Like you said, we don't really have those differences until we get closer in.

Amen. These split threads are maddening. I'm not even sure we need to do splits for storm events except in unique circumstances, like the norlun event that got this ball rolling.

To use cliches, the norlun event was the straw that broke the camel's back, not what got the ball rolling.

I think keeping threads separate inside 24 is good too, however - Tom, I believe you should extend your snowfall maps (much appreciated by the way) to include RIC out to State College and up to BOS as folks outside the Mt holly will continue to ask you to extend for there area.

Thats what i dont get, everyone in each of those threads have ppl who have access to the euro. Those people should do there communities a favor and do it for them.

I wanted to do this last Winter but it never happened. Having just one thread everyone is posting moves too fast and is really hard to follow. This at least will help somewhat. This is just an experiment and the end may have some sort of compromise, but for now lets just try this.

i think what did it was the dec 26-27 event when nyc was getting hammered and most everyone else wasn't really, thats just my opinion.

I agree- The Norlun is just plain aggravating to our Mt. Holly region and the our Philly posters and the frickin thing has not even occurred yet. In the future, the board should consider a Norlun a nowcasting event and should be discussed in a separate thread and be titled as such.

Some parts of NJ got hammered too. To me the preposterous nature of the split is shown by the proposed euro map. It's the whole sub forum ex NE NJ, Manhattan and LI. Are they some micro climate? Last year PHL got creamed and I got screwed routinely. I see no utility in the split as a general rule. If others do, please explain, why the views of the NY crew about the possible coastal next week would be any different from those of the rest of the subforum.
