Past MW/GL/OV Snowstorms

We were under a watch 2, and plus had like a foot of snow on the ground already. I was so excited, thought we would have 2 feet of snow, yeah right.. .. BUT hey, snow does not like to fall on top of snow for some reason, at least around S/E Mi. LOL.. Unlike the Mid Atlantic last year. GEE.

I remember this storm strongly. We were first forecasted to get nothing. Then 1 day before the mdoels shifted west and we were under a watch for 8 inches or more. Then it shifted east and we had a weather advisory for 2-4. Parts of ohio got 20 inches in a long duration event.

:lmao::lol: You were making a joke right? Snow falls on top of snow all the time in SE MI, and what happened in the midatlantic last year was as rare as can be.

I will say January 2009 begs to differ.

That's LAF with the 3" in west central IN...so so close. Still, a historic storm for the OV and eastern MW.

I remember that storm well... we knew it was going to be a huge storm so we loaded up all the Christmas presents on Christmas eve before the drive to my grandparents house in Perrysburg. Got snowed in there. Talk about a white Christmas...

Here's one for LAF:

what a storm. The western part of Franklin county (the county Columbus is in), had over a foot, while the eastern part of the county had a crippling icestorm with very little snow. You can see on that map where there is a 16" mark right near a 3" mark...that about said it all. The people that got hit with the icestorm were out of electricity for days and weeks and if you recall it got very cold following that storm for several days...highs in teens.

Here in Westerville we had a front end dump of 7", which transitioned to sleet and eventually over a quarter inch of ice. It made for a beautiful christmas scene though.

I think recall hearing about a lot people being stranded on the roads down in southern IN/northern KY during the 2004 storm.

And yeah Dec 1973 is a top 5 snowstorm for LAF.

Yep, 2004 had a huge travel impact. That storm holds the Indiana state record for greatest 24 hour snowfall (outside of lake effect at least) with 29" at Seymour, although I believe there were a couple unofficial reports of 30-31" in Indiana and Ohio.

My first attempt at a snowfall map for January 1-3, 1999. The color scheme is a bit meh, but it is what it is. laugh.gif Also I can't speak to 100% accuracy with the placement of the snowfall contours, but I believe it to be fairly close.

Never again will we have a good spread the wealth sotrm like that again.

One of a kind indeed.

It was one of a kind. All of the 12"+ amounts to the east of the track speaks to the arctic airmass that was in place, yet didn't stop it from cutting. I'm not sure I'd believe any model if it showed that exact scenario today...

BTW Chcagio WX, you need to switch around the 9-12" and 7-9"color scheme in lower Michigan (otherwise it's good). ;)

It looks strange, but when I looked at the COOP numbers in that area, it was fairly consistent with those amounts. Maybe they're wrong, I don't know?
