A-L-E-X
KBID now 1SM...they really need to put present weather sensors at either KBID or KMTP...its dumb for neither to have one...lets not forget KHTO only reports sometimes as well...so east of KFOK you have nothing...an ASOS should also be placed somewhere in north-central Suffolk. We also need some on the north shore. Why are they so biased against putting any sensors on the north shore of the island? They dont all have to be at the airports do they (come to think of it, I've wondered why all the airports on Long Island are on the south shore-- I dont think there's any in the "middle" either..... at least in the city, they have LGA, which has its own issues-- namely, urbanization.) Another good forecast William. I wonder why i am measuring significantly less than Upton for the 3rd straight event, we are usually very close. We got .75 last night. Nice little re-whitening, hopeing for a deeper snowpack by midweek
Snowshack
Thanks. I wonder why I saw less than Islip (0.9 / 0.5)...with them to my SSW, I would have thought I would have come out ahead... Good question- given the direction from which the precip was backing in, I would have guessed north shore locations would have done a little better. You and several others, like SG had a good call for montauk. Impressive gradient.

Probably a simple answer: lots of flat ground for runways on the south shore. Not much on the north shore, although Calverton would work.
