Some light snow just now redeveloping here...

Starting in wading river around the same time, and also stopped 15 minutes later. what a huge difference between here and Hauppauge this afternoon. I left Haupp at 3:15, it was 37 degrees and partly sunny with just wet surfaces everywhere. Once i got to exit 68 and turned north temp had dropped to 32 with about 2" on ground and fairly slick roads.

gfs at hr 24 has light snow up to ewr....

Seems to be a battle between US and foreign models with tomorrow's event. GFS/Nam aren't enthused at all and don't get snow north of Belmar pretty much. Other models are more impressed and place NYC in moderate snow. This might be another nowcast event.

The UKMET is quite impressive but doesn't have much precip. on the northwestern side of the low.

I have seen several storms in the past that despite their central pressures had very little in the way of precipitation/moisture because they were preceded by another event that robbed it. I wonder if this could be one of those scenarios.

think parts of the south fork may also score over the next couple hours

That is a lot more transitory than what is going on in eastern New Haven County, especially the northern part. There are going to be some jackpot totals up there.

It is also possible, although I haven't looked at any obs, that there is some rain or mix or at least very wet snow over the south fork.

The GFS has been dropping the ball this winter so far in the short range while it has been rather good beyond that...the NAM has been the winner inside 24 hours on most of the events so I'd be heavily leaning towards whatever it shows in the next 24 hours and not the GFS...I stil don't think anyone sees a big snow right now outside of the Twin Forks and SE CT but there is potential if the 500 vort max can kick more north into LI.

Drove 3 miles home from garden city to southern roslyn, so central central nassau to north central nassau and there was about twice as much snow...not saying much but maybe 1.5 tops...i guess the 3 miles north and extra 100 feet in elevation made the difference with the southerly wind...really interesting

Measured 7.2" here in Ridgefield, Ct. Had a friend down the road measure 9", and he is usually conservative.

havent measured yet still at work.. but nearby southbury only 4 miles nw measured 7" an hour ago.. and the heaviest snow is jsut moving in now and should last for an hour or so... someone will get a foot on the new haven/fairfield county northern border

Look at the Pittsburgh radar, the developing precipitation in that area is moving almost due north.

How much did you get Alpha5? Do you believe five inches for Greenwich?I've got about 2 or 3 here on the Sound.

Some of the totals around fairfield cty are amazing.

pics coming in from the sne thread are unbelievable, an inverted trough that wont soon be forgotten.

almost 4 inches here but places like upper greenwich new canaan norwalk wilton ridgefield and shelton just got pasted!

Amazing day.

I have to give it to NYNJPAWeather.. While he was a bit bullish w/ the snow overall- he had the right idea.. I think he knew the isolated nature of the large totals, but didn't depict it in his snow chart as well as he verbally outlined it in his video.. There was a bullet area of up to 12" of snow - just further north of where he depicted it to be... This storm was a 2-4" event region wide, w/ isolated amounts of 8"+ Unfortunately areas, right on the coast were in the total screw zone..

that was it... Long Island kinda got screwed over.. But it appears that points west, north and Northeast of NYC did fairly well...

Interesting event to say the least, but most of all, as everyone said, very difficult to predict..

jeff
