Where do you live? Drove through Boro Park and Midwood and after initial "stickage" this morning nothing has stuck since (besides on old snow piles)

Snowing nicely in Brooklyn sticking to sidewalks. It's funny that after the blizzard debacle all the sanitation and plows are going up and down every street, with nothing to do. This band looks nice but it looks very narrow. It's still nice to see though .

Heh, not bad at all:

Very impressive lift wrapped pretty far to the NW on the ARW. Looks like 10 or even 15 mb/s for 6-10 hour period from coastal NJ through LI. NAM hi-res not too far off either despite zippo QPF. We're going to need a rapidly deepening mid-level low with mature tilt to achieve that result in the tri-state. Who has Euro QPF specifics in terms of NW extent of appreciable QPF?

The Euro precip shield looks almost exactly like the WRF-ARW. The Euro precip shield is in a cone shape fashion opening wide from about Harrisburg, PA east, almost exactly like the WRF-ARW..

This was an absolute non event here. I had two, 20 minute periods of moderate snow that subsequently melted between bands. The temp has been stuck at 35, but that wasn't the problem. Persistency was the problem. The writing was on the wall with this since the models trended drier as the event approached. This was an impossible forecast and I will not consider it a bust because of degree of difficulty. Nice to see some people cash in, at least it adds some credence to the forecast. Maybe things come together for a few inches tomorrow night.

Not sure which "obs" thread to put this in. Have between 2 and 3 inches here in nyack. Had to drive to Warwick, NY this morning....hit Rt 17A right when a fairly heavy band came through, roughly 12 cars off the roads near Sterling Forest. Absolute disaster. They had a bit more up there. Snow is coming to an end here now.

The only measurable accumulation I have is on top of the existing snowpack.concrete. About 3/4-1". Heavy coating on the sidewalks and exposed grass areas. It's been 30-32 all morning and I missed all the banding I'm guessing.

0.8" I'm going with

ARW says tomorrow is our turn - we'll see.:snowman:

Lets hope, I'm not having fun right now with the forecasts for tomorrow at all...I have to think that lighter is the way to go but the C-NJ region is very tough.

This reminds me of an event in January 2009, that was not forecast to be anything more than flurries, but gave much of CNJ 4". I think I had around 2 that day.

Snowing hard in central nassau....moderately i should say...that main band is having a tough time moving north...unreal...to the east the moisture is streaming north...south of me...its barely making headway...haha

wow dxr reports heavy snow and looking at radar there is some really heavy snow exploding over northern fairfield county

I can confirm the SN+ in and around DXR... I'm just south of I-84 in Ridgefield.

Actually, I just measured 4.6" on my deck... good GOD... we had maybe 0.5" when it started picking up around 12:15. What an awesome storm this has turned out to be, and well modeled for this part of Ct. Will get some pics out later... special winter unfolding in this part of the world... :)

This winter kinda rules so far. Every event seems to just be slightly over-performing in this area (two of them big sample size, I know) and everything just looks beautiful again today. I accumulated somewhere between 2 and 3 inches on the old snowpack. The SPC EMC WRF is keying in on the second system now. You can see it on the 36 hr simulated radar. This feature has some teeth to it, too, and may give some areas an additional advisory level snowfall. There's a very potent vortmax coming around the upper level low. I included the link to the 36 hr 12z NAM and the 36 hr 12z SPC EMC WRF below.

What are your thoughts for out this way, SG? Today's event has been a nonstarter-- well, when its been snowing, its been light and not sticking to anything.

Yeah we had a lot of lighter hit and miss type events that month, but I do remember that one. It started early afternoon but wasn't really sticking and then we had a good 3 to 4 hours where it came down steady and moderate. Always a nice surprise

We have been among the lucky ones, my friend... I'm pushing 5" myself. Beautiful, peaceful, wonderful storm. This is what winter is all about.

Amen to that, its great out there. Snow falling nicely, no winds to blow everything around and destroy the dendrites.

Almost looks like Narnia out there......the things and inverted trough can do for you. Its a shame we dont get these more often
